An actress is alleging that President George H.W. Bush 'sexually assaulted' her and touched her from behind while in his wheelchair.

Heather Lind, 34, who starred in AMC's series 'Turn: Washington's Spies' made the shocking allegations against the 93-year-old former president on Instagram in a lengthy post as part of a caption to a photo.

'When I got the chance to meet George H. W. Bush four years ago to promote a historical television show I was working on, he sexually assaulted me while I was posing for a similar photo.

He didn't shake my hand. He touched me from behind from his wheelchair with his wife Barbara Bush by his side. He told me a dirty joke,' Lind alleges.

Statement from President H.W. Bush

“In a statement to DailyMail.com the former president responded: 'President Bush would never — under any circumstance — intentionally cause anyone distress, and he most sincerely apologizes if his attempt at humor offended Ms. Lind.'

“An actor who was pictured next to the woman who claims she was sexually assaulted by George H. W. Bush from his wheelchair has backed her story.

Heather Lind, 34, who starred in AMC's series 'Turn: Washington's Spies', alleged on social media that the 93-year-old former president had grabbed her from behind during the photo shoot at a private screening of the series premiere in March 2014.

Now her costar Kevin McNally, who was stood next to Lind in the photograph, has confirmed her claims.

'My full support for @heatherglind for speaking out about the horrible event in Houston. All of which is true,' tweeted the Pirates of the Caribbean star on Wednesday.

"he most sincerely apologizes if his attempt at humor offended Ms. Lind."

Why can't he just apologize for being inappropriate and making her feel uncomfortable? I'm so tired of this "Sorry IF I offended you."

That's for the joke part. The hand is another thing entirely.

I don't like that picture. I don't see his hand and he's got quite a big grin on his face.

Yes, rather creepy. Not really surprising for a man of his generation used to wielding a lot of power, coming from "old money". Sexual promiscuity and extra-marital affairs among that social cohort was considered acceptable. Wives always looked the other way or had their own affairs. Maybe old age has encouraged him to let down his guard a little.

"Old Joe" Kennedy was the same way, the only difference being he didn't try to hide it as much. Back in the day, any corporate or government executive expected to flirt and have affairs with women who worked for him. Feminism in the workplace in the 70s ended a lot of that.

I love how EVERYONE knew about it but NO ONE is speaking up until now. Sheesh.

That's how it works. Have you read about cases of sexual assault? There are literally hundreds on this website alone. Bush is a creep. Always has been.

Safety in numbers is not only for when we're out in public. Also helps when you're going up against the powerful and the status quo. I applaud all of these victims. It's got to be infuriating.

What I am going to say is based totally on my own opinion. I’m usually one of the first to jump on a bandwagon against any sexually inappropriate actions, but I do not think his action was intentional . Are you aware he has had vascular parkinsonism, diagnosed in 2012? I wasn’t until I stumbled across it tonight.

vascular parkinsonism is often due to problems with the vessels in the brain regions that control movement and small strokes are the primary cause. Although small strokes will cumulatively worsen the symptoms of vascular parkinsonism, it is otherwise not considered a progressive neurodegenerative disease like PD.

the condition seems to worsen with additional small strokes, sometimes too small to be noticed; it usually affects the lower limbs more than the upper. However, I have noticed for a long time that his left hand seems to be more curled inward and have wondered if he has limited control of it. This can also account for the facial appearance, which looks more like a grimace than a smile (to me). Were he to try to out his arm around someone to take a picture, he quite possibly cannot lift it very high, and cannot control easily how his hand moves.

Although I feel it may have been received as an inappropriate action, he may not have had the ability to realize he had done anything wrong.

Also ... I have suspected he has been losing his cognitive functions, as well. Again, JMO.

People have been standing by letting men get away with this behavior since the beginning of time. There is always a justification, a jump to be on the man's side, and fingers pointing at the victim. Always. And then they ask "Why didn't she come forward sooner?" Well, look around. That's why.

And I thought the majority of members here were advocates for victims of this kind of behaviour. Wrong.

Right!?! This is a victim friendly website last I checked.
