More than 13 years after the death of 11-month-old Dylan Robert James Lindsay, police have only now revealed the full horror of his injuries as they try to crack the cold case.
The baby's body was found at a property on Ellen Street at Port Lincoln on March 28, 2004.
Police strongly believe he was assaulted and have already offered a $1 million reward for information leading to a conviction.
They have previously said he suffered abdominal injuries which someone had attempted to hide by using a marker pen to cover the bruises, but today Detective Brevet Sergeant Mathew Bengel went further.
He, in fact, died of internal bleeding and expert advice is that would have taken about six hours."
Two people were arrested in May 2004 but the case was dropped.
Police said two adults remained "persons of interest" in the case.
