Jamie Bennett, who is about to turn 40 and a father of four, was reported missing on Thursday. He owns Town Tonic in Addington and has owned Passengers and Co, near Christchurch Airport, and Riccarton House. He was a founder of the Christchurch Farmers' Market. Bennett had not returned to his Redcliffs home and had not had any contact with friends or family, which was "very out of character" for him.

In a post on Bennett's chef Facebook page on October 16, he wrote about the new menu at Town Tonic, saying: "A change is good when you are flat food makes you happy this change has been amazing! Enjoy."

He had worked in restaurants in Queenstown before working throughout Europe.

In a post on Town Tonic's website dated August 31, Bennett wrote: "We built and opened 3 restaurants in the space of 2 years which was exciting but at the same time almost killed me."

The police statement said Bennett may be in a black Hyundai Tuscon vehicle with the registration DDT241.
