This is the Babcock murder trial discussion thread.

A few general reminders about the trial:

Any testimony that might remain under Publication Ban, and/or any courtroom discussion that takes place when the jury is not present, is strictly off-limits.

Only testimony that is published through MSM reporting (newspaper articles, tweets, tv) is allowed. Provide a source link, and keep discussion focused on testimony as it becomes public knowledge.

The magnificent principle of “innocent until proven guilty” is for the court room … it is not required that the general public / Websleuths members adhere to that principle. Members are allowed to discuss, speculate, theorize, and judge according to opinions they develop from following the specifics of the case.

A few general reminders from Websleuths TOS aka The Rules.

At all times, remain VICTIM FRIENDLY. No bashing or passing judgment on the victim or family.

There is ZERO TOLERANCE for snarky or disrespectful posts. Don’t expect an explanation … you will find your post has simply disappeared, or that you can no longer post.

There is to be NO name calling or name variations, not even of the accused.

BICKERING between members is not allowed. If you disagree, that's fine, say so and move past the post. If a post is offensive, alert it and let the Mods review it. If you respond to the post, both the offensive post AND yours will be removed and may result in other consequences.

Alert on a post and move on without discussing it, and don't question the decisions of our Mods/Admin or Owner. Also do not expect personalized responses with explanations about a particular decision.

Do not abuse the WS Alert feature. Abuse includes, but is not limited to:
• Overuse of the alert system
• Repeatedly alerting on the same poster
• Demanding a specific outcome
• Alerting on the same post more than once

If you have any questions, use the Alert feature or send a PM and we will be happy to assist.

Laura Babcock's phone tracked near accused killers before her disappearance, jury hears
By Shannon Martin, CBC News Nov 02, 2017

Testimony at the Laura Babcock murder trial entered a new phase Thursday — up until now the jury has heard from family, friends, even random strangers, who were among the last people to see Babcock before she disappeared in July 2012.

Now the Crown has presented a mountain of technical evidence: pages of Babcock's phone records tracing her last calls and texts and placing her phone in the same location as Dellen Millard and Mark Smich's phones at the time of her disappearance.

The prosecution alleges Babcock was killed by Millard, 32, of Toronto, and his former best friend Mark Smich, 30, of Oakville, Ont., at Millard's home on July 3, 2012.

Babcock, 23, was usually glued to her Blackberry, but jurors saw on that summer night, all communication stopped.

Nicole Rubelo, an intelligence analyst with the Toronto Police Service, gave a lengthy PowerPoint presentation that tracked Babcock, Millard and Smich's phones as they connected with the same cellphone towers.

Justice Michael Code tells jury members one of them has requested for a day off, this Monday Nov. 6, as there has been a sudden death in the family.

All lawyers have agreed to a day off this coming Monday.

Justice Code offers his condolences.

Floriani has an exhibit log and notes he may refer to for the purposes of refreshing his memory. #Babcock

May 22, 2013, Floriani conducted a search warrant. Forensic services respond to a crime scene & document the evidence, he is telling court

He executed a search warrant at a residence in Oakville, ON on May 22, 2013.

Floriani searched 1081 Montrose Abbey Drive in #Oakville. Understood mother of "Mark" lived at the location. Describing home

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now1 minute ago
The home had an attached garage with entrance to home inside. Two storey, single-family home; he's walking jury through, virtually. #Babcock

Mark Smich is from Oakville, On. This is his mother's home. The retired officer talks about the physical description of the house: four bedrooms, a finished basement, etc.

So what did they find in MS's home related to this case? Otherwise I'd imagine this detective would not be talking about his mother's home. Was it just the Ipad?

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now1 minute ago
Finished basement had a kitchen, bedrooms, living space. House bordered a wooded area. Floriani got there 10:08a.m. #Babcock

Mark Smich is from Oakville. This is his mother's house.

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now
First thing, forensic officers walked through house, "getting lay of the land," Crown Katie Doherty offers. Floriani agrees. #Babcock

Lisa Hepfner‏ @HefCHCHNews now24 seconds ago
Other officers were in charge of finding evidence, and taking photos, and Floriani's job was to document and package the thing of interest.

Im sure they got some info from that box of phones he had.

old cell phones? Was there not a bunch mentioned in TB Trial. Also i imagine this is touchy ground as was this search related to both cases?

Interesting that this warrant is dated May 22, 2013. So I assume it's the warrant for TB but they can't say that.
