Police called to the Lincoln Park Lagoon after a fisherman found a duffel bag with human remains inside found a second bag with more remains Saturday, police said.

Officers were called to the lagoon just before 11:10 a.m., when fishermen called 911 after finding a duffel bag filled with appeared to be human remains, police said. Marine Unit divers and detectives went to the scene and officials found a second bag with more remains, said Frank Giancamilli, a police spokesman. The remains were all believed to be from the same person, he said.

Detectives were conducting a death investigation and checking missing persons reports for any possible leads. The Cook County medical examiner's office was leading the investigation into the cause and manner of death.

Officers were called to the 2200 block of North Stockton Drive at 11:08 a.m. after fishermen reported “the discovery of suspected human remains” in the water, according to Chicago Police.
Detectives believe the remains are from the same individual as those found earlier.

This is a continuing death investigation and Detectives are actively looking into missing persons reports for any possible leads.

The Medical Examiner’s office will lead the investigation into the remains.

BBM. So many missing in Chicago it's hard to know where to start. I hope they can identify the person quickly.

Now, detectives have turned to missing person reports for leads. While authorities were investigating at the scene, crisis responder Dawn Valenti stopped to see if the remains belonged to one of two people missing from a south side Chicago neighborhood.
Dawn Valenti: “One has been missing for ten months, the other has been missing for about a week now. But the fact that there are two people actively missing that I know about especially Joanna Wright. It’s been ten months. And then to hear this. It could be just a coincidence, you know? But it brought me out here because I want to know.”

The Cook County medical examiner is now investigating the victim’s cause of death.

Gail Peck was last seen Friday in the 700 block of Littleton Trail. She left her home to walk her dog, which later returned without her. Peck is described as a 5-foot white woman with black hair and hazel eyes. Search crews spent the weekend scouring the area for Peck, but she wasn’t located. There doesn’t appear to be any immediate danger to the public.

Police in Elgin are searching her home. The home of Gail Peck, 76, has been blocked off with police tape as a crime scene. Members of Elgin Police’s Evidence Response Unit is inside investigating.

A family member of the missing woman confirmed the remains found over the weekend in the Lincoln Park Lagoon in Chicago are that of Gloria Peck. That source close to the investigation told WGN a relative said a scar found on the dismembered torso of the remains matched the missing woman.

WGN’s source says someone has been in custody since Friday evening, but no charges have been filed yet.

Police have towed and taken a vehicle into custody. A police source says a cadaver dog hit on the trunk of the car.

[h=1]Elgin police: Body parts found in Lincoln Park lagoon may be linked to missing woman case[/h]
CHICAGO (WLS) --

Police in northwest suburban Elgin are working with the Chicago Police Department to determine whether body parts found in a North Side lagoon are connected to the search for a missing woman.

Investigators believe the body parts from both bags, which include a torso and parts of two legs, came from the same person. There is a scar on the back of the torso from previous back surgery.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy Sunday. Cause and manner of death are pending further study.

Elgin police said the disappearance of 76-year-old Gail Peck is being handled as a criminal investigation, and that additional testing will be done to confirm whether the remains found in Chicago are connected to her case. Police also said they are not actively searching for Peck.

How sad! What a sweet looking lady. What did she ever do to anyone to deserve this? Nothing. The worst part is that it was probably for money. May justice be served swiftly, and those who loved her be comforted fully.

Brian Peck, 55, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of concealment of a homicide in the death of his mother, Gail Peck, with whom he lived in the 700 block of Littleton Trail.

They believe human remains found Saturday in a lagoon in Chicago might belong to Gail Peck. DNA testing is not complete but police have enough evidence to charge Peck.

Peck is scheduled for a bond hearing at 1:30 p.m. today at Cook County court in Rolling Meadows.

DuPage County records show Gail Peck filed an order of protection against her son in March 2016. She told authorities that after an argument with her son about him playing loud music he put her in a chokehold twice, telling her he was going to kill her. A few days later, she visited him in jail and told him she never wanted contact with him again.

Brian Peck pleaded guilty in June 2016 to domestic battery causing bodily harm and was sentenced to 100 days in jail.

He pleaded guilty in August 2013 to aggravated battery of a Lombard firefighter and was sentenced to 146 days in jail and one year of conditional discharge.

Sickening! And to think he had already been in jail from threatening and hurting her. I'm furious. My heart goes out to everyone who loved Gail.

Brian Peck, who lived with his mother in her Littleton Trail home, reported her missing, telling police she left to walk her dog on Friday evening and claiming the dog returned without her.
Elgin police began an intensive search for Peck, using all-terrain vehicles, drone, helicopter and officers on foot. Area residents also assisted in the search for Gail Peck, police said.
As the search went on, police said they received information suggesting that Gail Peck's disappearance did not happen as her son reported. "As additional information was obtained, more investigative resources were devoted to the possibility of the case being criminal in nature," police said. Detectives also executed a search warrant at the Peck home.
"Over the course of the next few days, detectives determined that Brian Peck was ultimately responsible for killing his mother and discarding her body, and that the remains found in the Chicago lagoon were that of Gail Peck," Elgin Police Chief Jeffrey Swoboda said in a community alert video on Tuesday. He thanked members of the police department for working tirelessly on the case, as well as members of the community, "who came out and helped us search for Gail, and shared her story on social media, all in the hopes that maybe she was just disoriented, and we could get her home safely.

"It was clear to us from the very beginning, talking to friends and family, that Gail Peck was loved by all that she knew," Swoboda said, extending his condolences to Peck's loved ones.
Brian Peck is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and concealment of a homicidal death. He is due to appear in Cook County Court on Tuesday afternoon.

His photo. Such a sad, sad story. Why was a 55 yr old man still living with his Mother? She had no prominent health issues (out walking her beautiful dog). After his arrest and time served for battering her, she was living on borrowed time, it would seem.

Someone has already posted his photo with a thorough post summarizing a horror story. Thanks so much!

Thank God he's not a very good cleaner. I'm sure he left enough evidence to leave no doubt what occurred in that house prior to him dumping his mom in the pond and trying to cover his tracks by reporting her missing.

What is it with Chicago and dumping dismembered bodies in park lagoon's. Kyrian Knox and now Ms. Peck

If she had a restraining order against him, why was he living with her? If she told him she didn't ever want to see him again, why was he there? Oh man, this case is so sad. She still seemed spry and active.

May she RIP and may Justice be done for her.

Unsure if she has a thread on WS.

An arm that washed up near Montrose Beach on Tuesday morning likely belongs to Gail Peck, a 76-year-old Elgin woman whose son already has been charged in connection with her death and dismemberment, police said.

The discovery of the human limb was made around 11 a.m. in the 500 block of West Lawrence Avenue, said Officer Christine Calace, a spokeswoman for the Chicago police.
Prosecutors maintain Brian Peck, 55 — who lived with his mother in the 700 block of Littleton Trail in Elgin — said he killed his mother after she complained he played his Jimi Hendrix music too loudly. Peck told police he stomped on his mother’s head and neck, then “put her in a bathtub and hacked her up,” police said.

After dismembering her body, Peck placed the body parts in luggage and duffel bags and dumped them in Lake Michigan near Diversey and Montrose harbors, prosecutors say.
