On campus, the parent was confronted by a male teacher and the parent struck that teacher in the face, Railsback said. A witness told KABC that the teacher’s face was bloodied and his nose was broken. The teacher was treated at a nearby hospital, police said.

The parent then went into a classroom and took a female teacher hostage, police said. The two have been in there ever since.

-The incident drew the SWAT team, which set up near the school in an armored vehicle, and agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Railsback said SWAT officers helped evacuate children and teachers to safety, taking them to nearby Castleview Park.
-Railsback said it was unclear if the man, whom he declined to identify, was armed. He said a small amount of smoke was seen coming from the classroom.
-“It’s basically him refusing to come out, and he’s got a teacher in there so it’s a barricade or hostage situation,” Railsback said.

Glad it ended! Hope Linda is okay. She is older and that was undoubtedly a lot of stress happened, plus any potential effects of the flash-bang thingie.

Wow, that must have been terrifying! I'm impressed with RPD, though. I lived in Riverside for a while and I have to say I was really impressed with their police force. They were really like the old-school, community-based, serve-and-protect, deescalating type of police force that you feel you can trust for help. And obviously, their SWAT team is equally well-trained. I'm glad this didn't get worse than it did.

By the way, here's something ironic. On the deceased suspect's Facebook page, he has this as his intro:

Father/dad/ I'm the example of what a man should do for his daughter
