TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Neighbors fear the worst in the disappearance of a 77-year-old woman. Alice “Anita” Oswald hasn’t been seen or heard from since about 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 9th.

A neighbor said she saw Anita, as she’s known by, pull into her driveway in her 2014 Honda CRV. She had just completed some volunteer work at the Harmony Haven Shelter.

Oswald’s daughter reported her missing on Friday. Terre Haute Police requested a Silver Alert after Oswald’s house caught fire early Monday morning.

That fire turned Anita’s house into a crime scene, as investigators have determined the fire is arson.

On Tuesday, THPD detectives were seen dressed head-to-toe in protective gear going through Oswald’s 2nd Avenue residence. They told us the home is still an active crime scene.

Oh my!

She was last seen driving a burgundy 2014 Honda CRV with Indiana license plate UJN699.

Meanwhile, neighbors worry about Anita. A neighbor who has dinner every night with her said she failed to come over on Thursday at 7 p.m. which had become their routine. She said Anita like to watch Survivor on Thursday nights.

She had just completed some volunteer work at the Harmony Haven Shelter.

I,too, watch Survivor. But, it isn't on Thursday nights. Wednesday nights. Odd! If you are a fan of a show you definitely know when its on...IMO.

Could someone else have been driving her vehicle when she had supposedly been seen pulling into the driveway? Someone from or around the shelter that took advantage of her or done harm to her? Fire to cover up whatever they had taken or done inside her home? I fear for Alice.

I wonder what happened to report her missing so soon?
Did the neighbor contact the daughter or the daughter live there? Did she miss an appointment?

2 videos of the fire on YouTube? I hope is ok to post?

I wander if she came home alone. Also, have they said whether her car is missing?

This is saying they now consider her to be in "Extreme Danger"... oh no. They obviously must have clues they are not discussing. Poor lady!

Police say Alice Oswald has been missing since last Thursday, and she is believed to be in extreme danger.

No longer confirming that she arrived home in her car that day.
Did someone else arrive at the home in her car? Did the neighbor get the days mixed up?

Initially, I was thinking she had angried a pet owner in the neighborhood for not taking what she would consider proper care of their pet. Now, they mention she also takes care of rental properties in the area.

“We’ve put a lot of focus into tracking her and trying to narrow the time frame,” said Shawn Keen, assistant chief and in charge of investigations at THPD.

He said Oswald was reported missing last Friday night by her daughter, who said her mother had not shown up as usual to work Friday at Harmony Haven animal shelter in northern Vigo County.

“She [usuallly] didn’t miss work,” Keen said of Oswald’s routine, which included caring for animals at the shelter, as well as stray animals in her neighborhood.

The last confirmed sighting of Oswald was between 2:30 to 3 p.m. Nov. 9 when she left Harmony Haven in her burgundy 2014 Honda CRV with Indiana plate UJN699.

The arson fire at her home early Monday and her continued absence prompted Monday’s statewide Silver Alert.

In her neighborhood Thursday, some neighbors recalled that Oswald kept to her self most of the time, and was busy tending to rental properties in the area.

“She’s 70-some years old but she was a go-getter,” said Kelsey Boyer, who is renovating a house on Second Avenue next door to a rental property owned by Oswald.

Another neighbor near some of Oswald’s rental property on Third Avenue said Oswald regularly cut grass and took care of her properties.

Other neighbors said Oswald was an animal lover who would feed neighborhood pets and strays.

It seems the neighbor who claimed to see Alice 'Anita' that afternoon/evening must have been mistaken according to the info below-

Police took the missing person report Friday. She was not seen at her home Thursday evening, or any time after that, Keen said.

Harmony Haven animal shelter's future uncertain after woman goes missing

Missing woman Alice "Anita" Oswald was a main caretaker at the "Harmony Haven" animal shelter in West Terre Haute.

There are now "closed" signs at the shelter and animal rescue groups have taken animals at the facility.

No word yet on the long term plans for the facility.

This makes me wonder if Anita was the main financial backer of the shelter, as well as a main caretaker.

From Harmony Haven’s website:
“We encourage you to give your time and money generously. As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation, all contributions are tax deductible”
http://harmonyhaven.org/support.html

What if she had been making significant amounts of donations and found out the funds were being used for something other than their intended purposes?

Do they know for sure it was in fact Alice who was driving the CRV as it left the shelter? Who was the last one to see her alive? Perhaps the neighbor did see her car in her driveway that afternoon, but could not see or cannot remember for sure whether it was Alice who was driving.

Did anyone enter her house, or if they did, did they inspect the inside of the home thoroughly prior to the confirmed arson a mere two days after she was reported missing?

I wonder if Anita had a cell phone with her, and if LE have been able to track its movements. Runnng through Terre Haute are two highways, I-70 and US-40, and past Terre Haute, it’s miles after miles of corn and soybean fields in all directions. I’m afraid Anita and her car could be anywhere by now :(.

No new info as to the investigation.

Anita was the founder of the shelter, which is now being closed permanently:(:

“As questions still surround the disappearance of Alice ‘Anita’ Oswald her friends are forced to move on without her at Harmony Haven Sanctuary, a pet rescue Oswald founded years ago.

To her friends, she was Anita. She seems to have disappeared without a trace.

Jerri Laubert is a volunteer turned Harmony Haven board member. She says Anita was a fierce advocate for animals and would never abandon the dogs and cats at her shelter.

‘Her heart was in it for the animals. She would drag her legless body up a hill to get to these dogs. She would never, ever abandon these dogs.’

Laubert says she and others were shocked to learn Anita had gone missing. Local authorities say they're stumped.“:

Harmony Haven FB page. Some interesting comments have been posted since Anita’s disappearance:

I think of the properties she worked for or with and the animal shelter. Who did she upset. I am back at the animal shelter as of now we know that is where she was last seen.
Her house fire was a day or so after...what may have been in that house? Was she kidnapped and she told the person you won't get away with such -n- such because of records she had at the house?
Her car is still missing, right?

More info released in search for missing woman

Assistant Police Chief Shawn Keen gave more details today in the search for Alice "Anita" Oswald, who was last seen Nov. 9.

The following news release was issued today:

"On November 10, 2017, at approximately 8:12 P.M., Alice A. Oswald F/77 was reported as a missing person by her daughter. Officers learned that Alice was last seen on November 9, 2017 at approximately 2:30 P.M. at the Harmony Haven animal shelter located at 1049 W Sanford Avenue, West Terre Haute, Indiana.

"Through the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Oswald arrived at a heating and cooling business in the 2100 block of Maple Avenue at approximately 3:30 P.M. on November 9th. Oswald waited at the business until approximately 4:35 P.M., when staff informed her that the repair person was in route to one of her properties in the 1600 block of 2nd Avenue. Investigators learned that Oswald then departed the business with the stated intention of meeting the repair person at the 2nd Avenue location. Through GPS tracking of the repair vehicle, detectives learned that the repair person arrived at the 2nd Avenue residence at 4:55 P.M., and that Oswald never arrived.

"Based on this information, detectives have conducted canvases of areas around both Oswald’s property in the 1600 block of 2nd Avenue and her residence in the 2300 block of 2nd Avenue. Detectives have also collected video from businesses and residences along the routes between all three locations. Additionally, residences in the 2300 and 1600 block of 2nd Avenue have been processed forensically.

"While we have received some information on this case, we are asking for the public’s help in locating Alice’s vehicle.
Based on new information, we are asking anyone who may have seen a burgundy Honda CRV in an area where its presence was new or unusual to contact the Terre Haute Police Department at 812 238-1661.

Replying to myself, again because I waited too long to edit.
And again, not a map peson.
First map is from heating and cooling to managed property.
Second map is from managed property to her house.

Did she drive the direct route from the business to the property? -such a short distance for Alice to go missing.

A western Indiana police chief says a $5,000 reward is being offered for information on a Terre Haute woman who vanished more than a month ago.

Terre Haute Police Chief John Plasse said Friday that community members donated the funds in hopes that the reward can generate "one little piece of the puzzle" in the disappearance of 77-year-old Alice Anita Oswald.

The Tribune-Star reports that Oswald vanished on Nov. 9 after she left a heating and cooling business to meet a worker at one of her rental properties.

She left the business in her burgundy Honda CRV, but there's no evidence she ever arrived at the rental property.

This article has a video of the press conference where the reward was announced. The video is only a couple of minutes long and neither the article or the video has no new info, other than that “investigation in Oswald's disappearance case has included searches of bodies of water and fly overs with no results,” but just in case anyone is interested, here it is:

http://www.indianacentralnews.com/t...nces-5k-reward-for-help-finding-missing-woman

One thing I’ve noticed about this case is that there have been no volunteer searches that I can recall.

I also find it very concerning that Anita’s vehicle hasn’t been found over a month later.

And then there is the fire at her home of course, which, sadly, leads me in the direction of foul play.

While so little information has been released, I do find the following quote from an earlier article particularly curious:

“Through the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Oswald arrived at a heating and cooling business in the 2100 block of Maple Avenue at approximately 3:30 P.M. on November 9th. Through GPS tracking of the repair vehicle, detectives learned that the repair person arrived at the 2nd Avenue residence at 4:55 P.M., and that Oswald never arrived.”
http://www.tribstar.com/news/more-i...cle_1aac96de-d532-11e7-92bb-7babc3d416b1.html

It may be completely irrelevant, but why did Anita have to “wait” for over an hour at the H&C business? Was the repair person supposed to meet with Anita at her rental property earlier in the afternoon but ran late, leading her to go over the office to see what was going on?

How do they know Anita never arrived at the rental property? Is it only because that is what the repair person said?

Do they know what caused the fire at her residence, which has been determined to be an arson?

I wish there were more information available, but then it seems LE knows much more than letting on and keeping everything close to the best for good reason.

I’m sorry for the lengthy post. It’s just that Anita seems like such a caring person, and I really would like to see her found.
