Residents at an apartment complex in the 17000 block of East Stanford Circle said the Madeleine Malloy knocked on their door about 11 p.m. Thursday asking to borrow a blanket.

The residents thought the child lived in the neighborhood and gave her a blanket. They later thought something was amiss and went looking for the girl, but they couldn't find her.

Police were called and there was a search overnight, but it didn't turn up the girl.

Malloy then knocked on the door of the apartment about 7 a.m. to return the blanket and saying she was hungry.

Malloy, who was not wearing any shoes, told the residents that she had slept overnight on the sidewalk by the complex near South Buckley Road and East Quincy Avenue.

"A 10-year-old girl was found safe Friday morning after she knocked on a stranger’s Aurora apartment door 27 miles from her Golden home and said she was hungry and lost.

The family called police and fed Madeleine Malloy breakfast around 7 a.m. The girl had gone missing up to 14 hours earlier, said Jenny Fulton, spokeswoman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

“We do not believe there was an abduction. We believe she ran away from home,” Fulton said during a news conference at 8:30 a.m. “We’re just grateful she was found.”"

"“She didn’t know where she was,” said Fulton, referring to when she knocked on an apartment door in the 17000 block of East Stanford Avenue.

A huge search started at 8:30 p.m. Between 150 and 200 law enforcement officers from across the Denver metro area including the FBI searched overnight for the girl. Authorities used blood hounds and a helicopter with infrared seeking capability, Fulton said.

“It was a massive response …There’s fear involved. There is such a relief when the fear is over,” she said."

(This caused me a lot of angst last night by the way. Was veryworried. Bad memories...this area is not fair from where Jessica Ridgeway was found and just the sight of the terrain...she was 10 also.)

So happy for this outcome. Was awaiting directives from LE to see if they would volunteers today.
