Thanks. I'll alert a mod to update the title.

Megan Stack and her daughter, Ava, 8, disappeared Monday afternoon after Ava was picked up from class at Bain Elementary School in Mint Hill. Authorities said Megan left her home on Cloister Drive around 1:30 p.m. Monday and has not returned or been heard from since.

Because of Megan Stack’s emotional state and recent behavior, there is serious concern for their safety,” CMPD said

CMPD said Tuesday afternoon that they were requesting an Amber Alert be issued for Ava.

CHARLOTTE, N.C.*- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police revealed Tuesday afternoon that an Amber Alert request for a missing 8-year-old Charlotte girl was denied by the state.

An Amber Alert for the little girl was denied because it did not meet the restrictive criteria. Detectives are now applying for a Silver Alert based on Stack's emotional state.

Anyone who sees or has information regarding Stack is asked to call 911 or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.*

Amber alert was denied by the state. From the amberalert.gov website: Each state AMBER Alert plan includes its own criteria for issuing AMBER Alerts. The PROTECT Act, passed in 2003, which established the role of AMBER Alert Coordinator within the Department of Justice, calls for the Department of Justice to issue minimum standards or guidelines for AMBER Alerts that states can adopt voluntarily. The Department's Guidance on Criteria for Issuing AMBER Alerts is as follows:
  • There is reasonable belief by law enforcement that an abduction has occurred.
  • The law enforcement agency believes that the child is in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death.
  • There is enough descriptive information about the victim and the abduction for law enforcement to issue an AMBER Alert to assist in the recovery of the child.
  • The abduction is of a child aged 17 years or younger.
  • The child’s name and other critical data elements, including the Child Abduction flag, have been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system.
Most states’ guidelines adhere closely to the Department of Justice's recommended guidelines

LE mentioned Megan's emotional state but didn't provide any specifics. Is this a short term or long term situation. What is the exact nature of her emotional state and is Megan taking any medication for this problem.

The Amber Alert being denied could be because there's some proof the mother could have gone underground for her and the safety of her child. I don't want to accuse the husband of anything. Obviously, LE has found a reason they find suitable to believe the child is not in immediate danger with her mother. LE can also make mistakes though.

I hope they're both safe and that they're found safe.

Is it unusual for the child to take the mother's last name when the father is involved?

It was stated that she thought someone was after her and she dumped her wallet, credit cards, phone, laptop and camera at a local business so she couldn't be traced. Child's father believes this is indicative of a lack of grasp of reality as opposed to any real outside danger. The only info in this article concerning the mother is from the father. I'll wait for some unbiased facts to go on.

If they are not married, no. I don't think it's unusual. I'm sure there's a story behind this mess. Just not sure what it is. Also that doesn't mean she is right and he is wrong.

All moo

Ms X, you are so right about a possible mess....I typically bow out of these discussions when I find out its domestic fighting.

Silver Alert has been issued.

[FONT=&quot]The N.C. Center for Missing Persons has now issued a Silver Alert for Megan, meaning it is believed she is in danger and suffering from some kind of cognitive impairment.
