The dark side to being a model

There are a couple very good documentaries on Netflix about the world of modeling.

Poor girl, it's good she got out. Her estimate that only 20% of the people in the business are decent says a lot. I've read so much recently about how so many of these women work as prostitutes and high priced escorts. It's how they make money while they're able, but they put up with a lot of dangerous abusive behavior.

It's said this is the main purpose behind the Victoria ' s Secret fashion shows. The audience is full of men only, bidding on the services of the models. That's why there are promo photo shoots of the behind the scenes rehearsals, etc. It's so potential buyers can get a view of the available women. The top models can earn 5 figures a night, six figures for a weekend. This also explains why Victorias Secret moved their fashion show overseas, where prostitution of underage girls is no big deal.

Perhaps First Lady Milana Trump will take up the cause of sex trafficking in the modeling industry. It's a world she is familiar with and could probably make a positive impact.

Wow, can you post a reputable link to that? I’d like to read about it.

The link above provides a first person account of pressure on models to prostitute themselves to supplement their income. That and the links below reveal this is common across the industry. Women are finally coming forward to discuss it.

In 2014, the cost to attend the VA fashion show was $16,000. It's probably much higher now.

I'm on my tablet and can't get the link to post, but a Google search will bring you the article.

Another google search will show you that this year's show was in Shangha. A Google search of the terms Shanghai prostitution will reveal many articles in the established news media, including some about loopholes allowing underage prostitution.

Another Google search will provide many details about the First Lady's modeling career, including some nude photo shoots in small circulation magazines. She spent many years in the business and has likely seen other models forced into escort work and prostitution. It would be great if she could take a public stand against such things.

That gets nearer your point, but doesn’t quite make it, imoo.

I’ve been looking, and what I can’t find are links to any MSM or law enforcement or other TOS-appropriate source showing the Victoria’s Secret fashion show is a high-dollar prostitution outfit, per your claims.

I understand how one might hypothetically assume that prostitution could happen at VS shows, but are you claiming it’s a known fact? Because human trafficking is against federal and international law.

I’m very interested in knowing more about any alleged crimes.

The women who model in these prestigious fashion events might not agree with claims that they’re prostitutes. Some might even consider it offensive and/or defamatory, since they’re modeling at a very high level, professionally speaking.

TIA

Like the rest of the #MeToo movement, women are having to come public on their own in the news media to discuss this activity. Law enforcement has been very slow to follow. Many of them are compelled to sign "non disclosure" agreements and fear losing their jobs, being black listed or worse if they try to report these crimes. So, yes, the evidence presented in all these documentaries and interviews is good enough for now. We need to encourage more women to come forward and give them support. With luck, law enforcement will respond, but that's not always a guarantee.

You’re still not answering the question regarding your specific claim that VS fashion show models are indeed prostitutes and sex trafficking victims.

I don’t think anyone here is arguing against the #MeToo movement or of reporting crimes. Anyone who reads my post history knows that I certainly support both.

Thanks anyway. ✌️ Happy holidays. [emoji319]

I have a friend whose daughter in her late teens joined an agency. She got jobs modelling for designer twice yearly presentations, then they said they had a series of jobs for her in Japan. She went and found out, it was not modelling, but an escort service for wealthy men to have a beautiful western woman on their arm. She broke her contract and came home after a week and never got another job from them again.

I’ve heard of scams like this. How terrifying.
