Found Deceased KS - Marissa Craft, 39, Chanute, 15 Dec 2017

Chanute woman has been missing since the evening of December 15th. Marissa Craft reportedly left her home that evening in the company of three men, in what was believed to be a white Dodge truck. She is 39 years old, with blonde hair and hazel eyes, and is 52 tall and 125 pounds. She has a tattoo of a spider on the left side of her neck, a butterfly tattoo on the back of her neck, and a queen of hearts tattoo on her right-hand middle finger.

She reportedly took no possessions with her when she left, and her cell phone has been off since that evening.

Anyone with any information about Craft or the men should contact the Chanute Police Department non-emergency number at (620) 431-5768.

A house fire this week destroyed a mobile home that was the last known residence of a Chanute woman missing for two months.

The fire at 1120 N. Grant early Tuesday morning .... owned by Robert Kauffman, was the last known residence of Marissa Craft, who was reported missing in December.

According to notices distributed after her disappearance, Craft, 39, was last seen Dec. 15 leaving the home she shared with her boyfriend. Craft is described as 52, weighing 125 pounds, with blonde hair and hazel eyes.

The structure fire at 1120 N. Grant Tuesday was reported about three hours after firefighters responded to a grass fire nearby at 22 W. Mulberry. Utilities were not connected at the Grant property. The Fire Marshal also investigated a fire that destroyed a house on west Main Street early Monday.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is seeking help from a forensic anthropologist to analyze skeletal remains found southeast of Thayer in August.

An analysis of the remains could take up to six weeks to complete, but identification still may not be available at that time, a KBI spokesperson said Friday.

Craft was last seen leaving her home in Chanute, Kansas on the evening of December 15, 2017. She lived with her boyfriend at a mobile home in the 1100 block of north Grant.

Craft left with three unidentified men in an older model white Dodge truck. She took no belongings with her, and her cellular phone has been turned off since her disappearance. She has never been heard from again. Few details are available in her case.

KBI: Remains identified as missing Kansas woman

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI), along with the Neosho County Sheriff’s Office, and the Chanute Police Department, have identified the remains of a woman who was found last August in a field near Ford Rd. and 50th Rd. in Neosho County.

Skeletal remains identified as Chanute woman

The skeletal remains were recovered Aug. 27, 2018, near the intersection of Ford Road and 50th Road in Neosho County. A farmer mowing in the area located the remains near the edge of a soybean field and a couple hundred yards off of the road, roughly 3 miles south of Thayer and then about 1 1/2 miles to the east, the night before. The remains were taken to the Shawnee County Coroner’s Office for examination. Further analysis took place by a forensic anthropologist.

The investigation into the discovery of Craft’s skeletal remains is being treated as a suspicious death and is ongoing.

Marissa May Craft of Chanute, born July 9, 1978, the daughter of [REDACTED] had been missing since Christmas of 2017, who was found on August 26, 2018 in rural Thayer, has been confirmed deceased.

Marissa attended the Humboldt School system and obtained her certificate as a medication aide. Marissa who was known as a bubbly, happy person who was willing to help others in their time of need. She loved being outdoors, and loved making things fun for her family. Marissa loved her family and being with family and friends.
