“New York state police say four people have been found dead inside a home in Troy.

The bodies were discovered Tuesday afternoon at 158 2nd Avenue. Police Capt. Daniel DeWolf says the deaths appear to be suspicious.

Officers have swarmed the street shortly before 1pm and cordoned off the area around the home, a white four-bedroom, two-bath house with a bay window in the front and rows of windows.

Here is a slightly different description. This article says the 4 were discovered by the manager of the house. There had been a woman, 2 children and her partner living in the basement. It is unknown if the victims are this particular family.

Also included in this article are more pictures and a map of the home's location.

It does look like it has been converted to a rooming house with that addition at the front where it looks like there was a porch.

And yet another version! This one says the property manager was one of the victims.
"The property manager of the building was among the dead, DeWolf said, according to the Times Union. The bodies were found in an apartment in the basement, the paper reported."

It makes more sense that the property manager would find the victims rather than be a victim, imo, but at this point, it's unclear.

All of those windows and so close together. Hard to see how the apartments are configured.

Four people were found dead Tuesday and may have been killed in a basement apartment in New York’s capital region, police said.

A property manager made the grisly discovery at a home in Troy, a city near Albany, police Capt. Daniel DeWolf said.

The deaths are “certainly suspicious,” he said. “Until something changes our mind, we’re looking at it as a homicide.”

I got the impression it was a house that was rented out, not an apartment since they listed square footage.
Maybe it was just split into two, basement and main floor? One article says basement apartment.

One article said the landlord found the bodies.
Maybe the manager and landlord are different people?

Very convoluted and sad either way.

From the photos, it looks like a large house - perhaps with two apartments per floor plus one in the basement.

“A quadruple homicide in upstate New York on Tuesday may have claimed the lives of a mother, her two children and her partner, according to social media tributes, but police are not releasing many details.

Police continued gathering evidence Wednesday inside the basement apartment in Troy, New York, where four bodies were found the day before. The deaths are being investigated as homicides.

Officials say a property manager discovered the bodies early Tuesday afternoon in the city’s Lansingburgh section.

Investigators have not released the victims’ identifies or say how they were killed, but neighbors tell Albany Times Union that a woman lived in the basement apartment with her children, ages 8 and 11, and her partner.”

Terribly sad and tragic. I hope those responsible are caught.

Police say this was not a random act.

The chief said, “After being in this business for almost 42 years, I can’t describe the savagery of this,” he said. “I don’t have the word.”

More in the article:

“'Certain factors we uncovered during the investigation leads us to believe this is not a random act,' he said, adding law enforcement intended to use all of the resources at their disposal to keep residents safe.

'The emotions of a police officer is something you repress because there is a job to be done, but no one involved in this case is ever going to forget it. Right now our job is to bring this person to justice.'"

there's an answer to the questions earlier - the building houses 5 separate units. And for LE to say this is the worst they've seen - LE in upstate NY (not some podunk small town), it must have been really bad. Also, not really looking for anyone else it seems... murders/suicide?

So very sad to read about this...

Thanks for answering that question about number of units in the building.

I don't think LE is looking at murder-suicide. There was the statement from LE today: "Right now our job is to bring this person to justice.'"

An update:

Well, this is SPECULATION, but I would look at the father of the children. Perhaps he is upset that 1) he was replaced and 2) he was replaced by a female.

This is just my first hunch on the case, not fact.

An update:

Hmmm...just noticing the way it's worded: "who had been in a relationship"

So no longer in a relationship? Maybe it was murder-suicide (I was thinking it was not).

IDK.

I understood the past tense to mean...like, when she was alive.

I just read this on a new site. So tragic. I would believe it’s an ex of one of the women . The tying up is bit strange. Unless they wanted it to look like a burglary.

Do you have a link to info about tying up?
