Detroit police are searching for three missing children whose 36-year-old mother was a victim in a double homicide today.

The homicide occurred on the 9200 block of McKinney, according to a news release from police. No other details on the homicides were released.

The missing children are Kasra Watts, 15; Robert Watts, 12; and Elana Watts, 8.

Anyone with information about the children are asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP or Detroit Police at 313-596-2260.

Was going to open a thread on the missing children if one hadn't already been started. Saw the story on Channel 4 newscasts. It was mentioned that the children's father had picked them up yesterday. I truly hope he isn't responsible for the murders.

Police say the 911 call came around 2 p.m. The caller reported that his friend, a 36-year-old black male, told him he'd just shot his wife...

I have a horrible feeling about this :( I hope the father doesn't harm the children and/or kill himself.

First, it is a true relief to see all three youngsters were located unharmed (such a cute photo of the three in the article linked.) I pray they can keep some of the joy in themselves as they go through this rough time.

It will be interesting to find more details about when the kids were picked up and what they did after that time. Also noteworthy that the article said they were with "a relative." However, the part of the article that gave me pause was the last line:
"Neighbors said they are unclear when the fatal shooting occurred, as there were many shots being fired on New Year's Eve."

From what I gleaned reading/hearing various accounts of the story, the children were with their paternal grandmother in Redford Twp.

Despite annual pleas from Detroit Police Department, people fire shots into the air on NYE instead of firecrackers. This practice has gone on for some time, and there seems to be nothing DPD can do to prevent it.
