Donald Gildersleeve, 59, was reported missing Sunday morning and was last seen Saturday, police have said. A statewide Silver Alert issued late Sunday night noted that Gildersleeve may be in extreme danger and require medical assistance.

"Police have continued to search for him and have followed up on numerous tips regarding his possible location, all with negative results," Valparaiso police said in a Wednesday Facebook post. "Police continue to follow up on community tips and are still seeking assistance from the public."
Valparaiso police were called early Sunday to the 2100 block of Valparaiso Street by personnel from Porter-Starke Services who said Gildersleeve had not returned home. He was last seen at 10 a.m. Saturday at Porter-Starke's offices on Wall Street.

Gildersleeve is believed to be on foot or on a bicycle and is described as 6 feet tall, 210 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He also has a beard.

Anyone who thinks they've seen Gildersleeve is asked to contact the Valparaiso Police Department by dialing 911 or texting a tip to 847-411 and entering "Valpo" as the first word in the message field before sending the tip.

VALPARAISO — A group of local police officers and firefighters headed out in the heavy lake effect snow Thursday morning to search a heavily wooded area at the north end of the city for a 59-year-old man missing since Saturday.

The foot search of the 70-acre area north of Vale Park Road and east of Valparaiso Street for Donald Gildersleeve was triggered by nothing more than wanting to cover all the bases, said Valparaiso Police Lt. Tom Horn.

"He was known to walk through this area," Horn told the group as they gathered before the search at Fire Station 2 on Cumberland Drive.

A statewide Silver Alert said Gildersleeve is believed to be in "extreme danger."
The police searched Wednesday using a drone, he said. But the extremely low temperatures have prevented a detailed search until Thursday.

"The conditions have been pretty harsh for anyone to be out for any length of time," Grennes said.

The search team planned to head north on foot from Vale Park Road in a single line and then search around nearby Silver Lake if time allowed.

Quite the jaunt by foot, if I remember correctly. It was quite cold that day too. Perhaps he took public transportation to that area. RIP Mr Gildersleeve.
