After a family friend called for a welfare check, deputies went to the home and found the family slain. Deputies said the husband, in his 50s, likely shot his 40-50 years old wife, their daughter in her 20s, and their 11 or 12 year old son, then turned the gun on himself.

Authorities believe a man shot and killed his wife and two children before turning the gun on himself in their Southern California home, where their bodies were found Friday.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies went to the house in Santa Clarita early Friday after getting a call from someone concerned about the family, Lt. Rodney Moore said.

The husband and wife, their college-age daughter and pre-teen son were found shot to death in what appears to be a murder-suicide carried out by the man, Moore said.

Heartbreaking video of neighbors. The family has not been formally and publicly identified yet, out of concern or other family members, although the Daily Mail has done so, of course.

OK, it looks like local news has identified them as Michael, Amy, daugnter Drew (20) and pre-teen son Sean Birnkrant. The DM has better photos, as always.
