Something happened to your ep post...

It has been nearly six months since Jesse Leopold was last seen leaving his place of employment in Jewell, and despite numerous rumors floating around social media, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office is still hitting walls in their search for the now 24-year-old Boone man.

On Oct. 13, Leopold reportedly told his supervisor he was going to go get his medicine just before his lunch break at approximately 6:30 p.m. that night. Two days later, after learning from Leopold’s roommates that he had not been seen since he left work, his father Jerry Leopold posted a plea on Facebook, asking for help in finding his son.

The following morning, when Jesse’s purple, three-quarter-ton Ford pickup truck was found on Canyon Road in Ledges State Park, unlocked and with the keys in it, Jerry reported him missing, and he said that his son always locked his truck.

Since then, efforts by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and by Jerry Leopold and those who have volunteered to help locate Jesse have not turned up a single significant lead.

Law enforcement still seeking answers in Jewell man’s disappearance
(from March 6, 2018)

In a previous interview with the Ames Tribune, Jerry Leopold said that his son was struggling with bipolar disorder, depression and anxiety. In the past, he had indicated to his father that he could not afford to refill his medication prescription, and Jerry Leopold said he had reason to believe his son was getting drugs from “shady places.” He said his son had been admitted to the emergency room several times, and when they drew his blood, they found drugs in his system that he had not been prescribed.

Jerry Leopold declined to answer questions about the case and where it currently stands for this story, due to getting close to a “really large story,” that would be hampered by disclosing details about what is going on at this point.

Roadblocks in Boone County Missing Persons Case forcing Family to take Matters into Own Hands
“I do believe that there have been several people that have come forward but because of the lifestyle choices or problems they may have had in the past that they are simply dismissed as not credible.”

It’s forced Jerry to take matters into his own hands. He launched the Facebook page “Finding Jesse Leopold” to help keep heat on the cold case. It has more than 9,000 followers.

I just stumbled on this case a few days ago and quite honestly, it’s just one of the most bizarre I’ve run across. From a distance, it looks clear cut that this young man went missing when off buying drugs - so it must be the dealer, right? But then you peel back a layer you find he was being threatened, scared for his life, being asked to repay a debt that wasn’t his own and really trying to hold on to sobriety as best he could when the world he was escaping wouldn’t let him go.

There are suspicious deaths of key players, biker gangs in the distribution cycle, meth labs popping up all over town and police that turn a blind eye to it all. So it seems. This case is so multi-layered and Jerry Leopold, Jesse’s dad, is right in the center fighting it all on his own. This man needs help and he’s not getting it from LE or any of the agencies he’s contacted. He’s amazing, though, the way he keeps fighting on.

And wait til you hear all the rumors he was told of what has happened to his son. It’s unbelievable...

When the dad asked police to search cctv footage in town to see who drove his son’s truck to the destination it was later found, he was told no because “bad guys have rights, too.” Wait, what??

There’s a podcast on the story by The Vanished and Jerry tells this story there. It’s worth the 45 minute listen though it only scratches the surface of what’s bubbling in this town.

Details of Disappearance
Leopold was last seen in Jewell, Iowa on October 13, 2016. He was working his shift at W&G Marketing, a meat processing plant, when he left at 6:30 p.m. before his lunch break, telling his supervisor he needed to go get his medication. He never returned to work and has never been heard from again. He left behind his street shoes, wallet, sunglasses and cigarettes.

On October 16, Leopold's truck was found on Canyon Road in Ledges State Park. It was unlocked, with the keys in the ignition, and Jesse's work boots were in the back of the truck. A photo of the truck is posted with this case summary; it's a purple Ford F-150 with Iowa license plates. It's uncharacteristic of Leopold to leave his truck like that; he always locked it. The truck had been there since at least October 15; it was issued a parking warning that day.

In the years prior to his disappearance, Leopold had been to the hospital emergency room several times, and blood tests showed he was taking drugs other than those prescribed to him. His father believes he may have been self-medicating with drugs he bought on the street.

Leopold's family believes a mental breakdown may have caused his disappearance, but there have also been rumors of foul play and possible drug involvement in his case. There has been no activity on his cellular phone or bank account since his disappearance, His family believes he's no longer alive. His case remains unsolved.
