The homicide unit has taken over the investigation into a missing 29-year-old woman in Hamilton.

Holly Hamilton was reported missing by her family on Monday after she was last seen the night before on January 14.

In a news release issued on Wednesday, Hamilton police said Hamilton has never gone missing before and described this incident as “out of character for her.”
According to investigators, Hamilton drives a white 1996 Ford Escort with the licence plate BRBL 996, which has sustained some damage to the front of the vehicle.
She has been described as a black five-foot-seven woman weighing about 170 pounds with long black hair. Officers said she was last seen wearing a black parka style jacket with brown fur on the hood, blue jeans, a white three-quarter sleeve t-shirt with black writing on the front and black boots

Have you seen Holly Hamilton? Homicide unit investigating her disappearance

Missing 29-year-old woman last seen Sunday; police trying to track down ex-boyfriend
"There is reason to be concerned for her safety and as a result the Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation."

At a press conference today, Staff Sgt. Dave Oleniuk told reporters that detectives are also trying to track down Hamilton's 30-year-old ex-boyfriend. There has been a history of domestic violence in their relationship, he said.

"We need to talk to him," Oleniuk said, though he also pointed out that the man is not currently a suspect. "We believe he has valuable information as to the location of Holly."

The man is known to police, Oleniuk said, though she is not. Police are not currently releasing his name.

The two have a daughter, Oleniuk said, who is currently "safe with her grandparents." Hamilton works for a cleaning service, but didn't show up for work yesterday.

Police say a command van will be located in the area of Barton Street East and Fairfield Avenue in the city's east end while officers canvass the neighbourhood for more information through the day.

I wonder why police won't release his name. Given that they know where he lives and works, but haven't been able to find him, couldn't they consider him missing and ask for the public's help in locating him? ;)

Hope this young mother is found safe, but I'm not optimistic.

Are you sure that's her fb? I'm not good at facial recognition, but they don't look like the same person to me.

I think they look like the same person. MOO

According to CHCH (live coverage, so no link yet), there is a civilian search party being organized for this evening ("Holly Hamilton Search Party !" on fb).

I wonder if the ex was driving her car when he dropped off their daughter -- maybe that's why he didn't want to see Holly's parents. Given the age of Holly's car, it should stand out.

I'm surprised Holly's car has not been located. It does suggest that the ex-boyfriend is driving it, possibly out of town, or has done something with it.

There's also information circulating suggesting that the little girl did witness something, sadly. Per a public post asking to be shared, the little one may have heard choking, stated mommy was sleeping in the shower, was taken to the store and when they returned mommy was gone.

Hoping LE can figure this out swiftly. Hamilton Police are quite fantastic, imo.

Any idea as to why HP have not released name or description of Holly's ex? Many friends and family have used a name on social media, so I am surprised Hamilton Police haven't.

I just drove by the ex's apartment. Police Forensics vehicle out front.

Interesting and helpful, thank you. Confusing as to why they are not releasing the ex's name or identity, and are not calling him a suspect, yet they are forensically investigating his apartment. Nonetheless, I'm glad HPS are taking such progressive steps.

Police are looking to speak with Hamilton’s 30-year-old ex-boyfriend and father to her young child.

His name has not been released and police say they just want to speak with him to rule out the possibility of a domestic situation.

Hamilton drives a white, 1996 Ford Escort with license plate number BRBL 996. The vehicle has some damage to one of the front fenders.

Two new photographs of vehicles similar to the car were released early Wednesday morning. “This vehicle may be operating on the roadways or parked. Hamilton Police are asking the public to contact 911 immediately if they come across the vehicle. Additionally, police are requesting citizens check their property, especially larger warehouse and commercial areas for the vehicle, in the event it has been parked, ” said police in a news release.

Anyone with information that could help police in this investigation is asked to contact Det. Rich Wouters at 905-546-4921.

Sorry for the terrible photo through my dirty windshield. The van is Guelph police (!?) Forensic Identification Unit. The truck in front is Hamilton forensics. The police car parked behind had an officer sitting inside (which is why I stayed inside my car, legally parked).
