Slaying confession reported
Court papers claim teen admits killing
A 14-year-old boy who had dreams of becoming a police officer has confessed to detectives that he shot a pregnant woman in the head and abdomen for $500 in a murder-for-hire plot involving four others, according to court documents.
Xeng Saetern re-enacted the shooting on videotape for investigators, according to police reports filed in the case.
The boy and three other suspects told police of their roles in the Dec. 29 shooting of Si Choy Saeturn, 28, who was four months pregnant and the mother of a 10-year-old. Some of the suspects told police that Nai Loung Saechao, the woman's 25-year-old husband, had been planning his wife's murder for seven months and hired them to kill her. One suspect said he got a discount on a car purchase as payment, the court records state.
Nai Loung Saechao pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of his wife... The teenager, Xeng Saetern, was tried as an adult and convicted of first-degree murder. Saechao was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole and Saetern was sentenced to 25 years to life.
Also convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole, according to Sacramento Superior Court online records, were Lo Fo Saephanh and Saechao's mistress, Mimi Le. Khae Saephan pleaded no contest to first-degree murder and also was sentenced to life without parole.
A sixth defendant, Chang Saephan, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced in October 2010 to four years in prison.
