Cape Town, South Africa, running out of water 2018

"The metro area [of Cape Town] of 3.7 million has less than 90 days' worth of water in its reservoirs, making it the first major city in the world that could run out of water.

Cape Town residents and visitors can only use 13 gallons of water per day starting in February....

The average American uses 88 gallons of water per day, according to the Environmental Protection Agency."

From the host of a radio program on WNYC:

"@diannakane, who lives parttime in Cape Town, says ppl have buckets under every faucet to re-use; water is transferred to a bigger bucket for washing floors, flushing toilets, etc. She says it kind of makes you wonder why our homes aren't already designed to use water like this."

Good question.
