1 Person Dead In Marshall County Shooting.

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky. (WPSD) - One person is dead after a shooting at Marshall County High School

The shooting happened in the commons area of Marshall County High School and the school is on lockdown. Governor Matt Bevin says one person has died. Reports state that anywhere between three to five people have been shot.

The shooter is in custody.

BENTON, Ky. (WKYT/AP) - Police are on the scene of a shooting at a high school in Marshall County.
It happened Tuesday morning at Marshall County High School in Benton, near the Land Between the Lakes.
Kentucky State Police say that one person has been killed, and multiple others are injured. Police have not released the identity of the victim, The Kentucky Department of Education initially said on twitter the victim was a student, but later deleted the tweet.
Police say the scene is secured and a suspect has been taken into custody.
The FBI and ATF say they are assisting local law enforcement with the situation.
The community is about 120 miles northwest of Nashville, Tennessee.

Bevin is on his way to Marshall County. WLEX said he left from the Capitol.
Our Local 6 crew has confirmed three victims were taken to hospitals.
Students are being bused to North Marshall Middle School where parents can pick their kids up. Parents are asked to not call the school.

Shooter in custody and not deceased? That's pretty rare for a school shooting, I think.

I am so disgusted by how often these shootings happen though.

"Four patients were transported by medical helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, LifeFlight spokesperson Jerry Jones told CBS Nashville affiliate WTVF. Their ages and extent of their injuries were unknown."

Not saying yet if it is students and/or staff who are among the people shot.

Early reports are often confusing This report says seven (rather than four) taken to hospitals. I hope their injuries are not life threatening and the casualty count does not go up.

I heard a press conference will be at noon. Anyone know of a good local news site to watch? I am always horrible at finding links and pretty much rely on people here. But like you said, this is barely on people's radars. Pretty sad that this is the world we live in now.

Sadly, it seems we've become so habituated to violence that I suspect this story will be "newsworthy" only because . . ."This marks the first fatal school shooting the nation has seen this year."

They have a live feed right now. They said that the school board confirmed it was a student that was killed.

I assume they will likely stream the press conference on this site but who knows.

Police found the weapon, a pistol, in the back side of the high school, a sheriff deputy told dispatch.

The Kentucky Department of Education initially said it was a student who died. They later said it was a person who died.

A Marshall County deputy apprehended the alleged shooter, state police said about 10:26 a.m., roughly 15 minutes after saying the scene was secure.

Bevin is on his way to Marshall County, where there will be a press briefing at 1 p.m., KSP said.

Killed person is female and related to someone on the school board, according to the reporter. LE confident they have the right person in custody and are not looking for others. Perp seems to be a student, but not confirmed.
