Police were called to the Willow Run Apartments in Ellet about 3:30 p.m. Friday after the mother discovered the girl, 2, on the porch. Temperatures in Akron on Friday ranged between 12 and 19 degrees. The toddler was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital where she later died. Police are withholding the girl’s name until her family can be notified.

So was she found outside her own home?

At 3:30 in the afternoon?

Was no one watching her?

I have so many questions.

She was found by her mother on the front porch of an apartment in freezing weather, reportedly telling a 911 dispatcher she found the toddler "frozen" outside.

A neighbor in the 76-apartment complex managed by the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority said the woman also has a son and has seen both children outside alone before.

Why am I not surprised that the children have been seen outside alone before? I mean..maybe the boy is much older and can watch the 2 year old but somehow I doubt it. I am so angry. Yet another preventable death.

The mother told the 911 operator she had no idea how long her 2-year-old daughter had been outside in the freezing cold.

She has been identified as Wynter Parker.

The mother had been away from the house for about two hours, police said. In the eight-minute audio recording, she told the dispatcher that her daughter “left and went outside.”

Authorities had not said whether charges may be filed in the case.

Left and went outside?!?! Wtaf?? She's 2!

Also so sad and ironic her name is Wynter :(

Oh
Or is that the mom's name? Either way.
ETA yeah that's the little girl's name

So the mom had gone somewhere and the dad was home but fell asleep and the little one got out. That's different than I expected when I first heard about this. How awful.

I have started using the chain locks on our doors after this story. I had them for my now 14 year old. After she escaped once and was missing for 30 minutes. (We live on 3 acres.) My now 2.5 year old is nowhere near as adventurous as his sister was and can't even open the door yet, but I'm not taking any chances.

How horrific to come home to that. Awful.

"“She’s frozen! She’s frozen!” the mother screamed frantically." In 2 hours? I wonder what she was wearing.

If you put Wynter's name in FB, there's lots of posts. At any rate, the infamous money maker website is up. Wynter had JUST turned 2 yrs old...I think that makes a difference. Fly high little one. Too precious for this world.

This is a good idea. When I was 10, I sleep-walked down the stairs, through the hall, the dining room, the kitchen, unlocked the back door to the porch, then unlocked the outer door, went around the house and woke up at the front door, which was locked, freaking out. All this while 2 adults and at least one older sibling slept through it. You never know.

I was old enough to get my wits about me and was ok, but smaller children may not be.
