MOSS BLUFF, Fla. - A man accused of fatally beating his roommate with a sledgehammer and a claw hammer because there was no toilet paper in their home has been arrested.

Franklin Paul Crow, 56, was charged Monday with homicide in the death of Kenneth Matthews, 58, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

I don't get this. Doesn't it seem like the guy with the rifle would have won this fight. Why would a guy holding a rifle just sit there and do nothing while someone is beating him with a sledgehammer. He could've stopped that dude by shooting him in the leg or something. Unless the gun wasn't loaded, this doesn't make any sense.

A man accused of bludgeoning his roommate to death with a sledgehammer took an offer of 30 years in prison in Circuit Court Thursday in exchange for pleading guilty to second-degree murder...

A Vietnam War veteran, [Matthews] liked to hunt, fish and ride his motorcycle. He had first met Crow at Ma Barkers Hideaway, a bar popular with bikers in Ocklawaha... He had taken Crow in as a roommate, and provided for him by feeding him, giving him "a roof over his head," and even bringing him to his family's Thanksgiving gathering...

Matthews suffered a fractured skull, broken fingers on his left hand, and grave wounds to the head and face. His body could only be identified through a set of fingerprints already on record.
