[h=1]After Parkland Shooting, A Florida Gun Owner Gives Up His AR-57[/h]
https://www.npr.org/2018/02/17/5868...ooting-a-florida-gun-owner-gives-up-his-ar-57

It's come after a lot of soul searching. Everybody always says - you know, it's the big argument right now - everybody's offering thoughts and prayers but nothing else. And I thought, well, this is something I can do that I think is right. And it's something I can do that might spark a change. You know, my whole goal was maybe to inspire one friend on my Facebook page to do the same thing. And maybe that friend would inspire one other person. And who knows? I totally didn't expect for this to go the way it did and as fast as it did.

One thing I want to point out, it doesn't seem adoptive mother wanted sons to have guns. She called police on NC numerous times. When did he buy his guns? Was mother still alive?

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/broward/article200754714.html

"In spite of the police reports and his mental health history, Cruz was able to pass a background check and buy the rifle in February 2017. In Florida, absent a felony or domestic abuse conviction, almost any adult can walk into a gun store and walk out the same day with an AR-15 rifle and a cache of ammunition after clearing a simple background check.

Cruz also managed to legally purchase at least five other guns in the past year, said a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation. They were recovered from the home where he was living with a friend’s family after the shootings."

Mom died this past November 2017

I don't recall seeing this previously, about what he was like before high school...

When Nikolas Cruz was a student at Westglades Middle School, he was constantly in trouble for insulting teachers and staff, using profanity, disruptive behavior, unexcused absences and at least one fight.

His mother was called in more than a dozen times for conferences and Cruz was frequently sent to counseling, according to the records.*

I am so impressed with this young woman. Her name is Emma Gonzalez, a student at Stoneman Douglas. I pray her passion can fuel common sense change. I'm in awe of her for how she speaks and her lack of fear. I would feel as if I'd won the lottery if she was my daughter.

There is a major misconception out there.

There have not been 18 school shootings this year.

No, there have not been 18 school shootings already this year, as CNBC, Politico, The Washington Post, ABC, The (New York) Daily News and briefly a USA TODAY column all reported in the hours since a 19-year-old allegedly slaughtered 17 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in Parkland, Fla., on Ash Wednesday.

Huh, I guess I'm bringing fourth my post about my idea of stun gun cameras.

Stun gun cameras Jen. The perp pulls fire alarm, 911 dispatch pulls up wifi connected cams at school; identifies perp, camera shoots out a stun, bang, perp down, police arrest.

I came up with this idea when I saw the Columbine videos. Microprocessor controlled cameras with built in stun guns. These cams would be able to be accesed and used by 911 dispatch thru wifi or police/swatt on a tablet or phone.

I am trying to get Tom Steyer

connected with the kids in Parkland. I def think he will help them

I fantasize about him doing tv commercials with them ! The kids are awesome and they might get a totally young demo in Nov election !!

So I tweeted Hogg with Steyers twitter stuff and vice versa

if you guys know any way on FB or Insta or whatever to get them connected that would be great

It does appear that at least some calls were possibly about mom being aggressive in response to him .

I froze the CNN report . You can call in annously to the dept, It looks like they went at least once to do an adult in home investigation .

It says reporter excluded - that is how I came to this conclusion .

child/elderly abuse," "domestic disturbance" and "missing person."

two calls reported Cruz as missing, in 2012 and 2013.

Lynda Cruz called police to their home on January 15, 2013, records show. According to a police report, she said 14-year-old Nikolas had refused to go to school that day, so she took away his Xbox "privileges" and stashed the computer game system in her vehicle.

That enraged her teen, who "retaliated and threw a chair, dog bowl and a drinking glass across the room." The boy called his mother "a useless *****" and other profanities she wouldn't share with police, she said.

The mother told police her son had a "history of developmental and learning disabilities,"

Henderson Behavioral Health facility, where Cruz was a client for years,

So we have confirmation that mom was given a dx.

he "did not make any threats of harm to him or others," the report said, Barela advised that it was unnecessary to invoke a Florida law allowing police to put a mentally ill person in custody.

By Everytown’s criteria, nobody has to be injured and the “shooting” doesn’t actually have to take place on campus, though it does have to be heard on campus or a bullet has to hit somewhere on campus.

According to a number of people who spoke with Trump at Mar a Lago over the two days he was there, the president kept an obsessive eye on media coverage around the shooting, watching interviews with survivors from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in Parkland, The Washington Post reported on Sunday.

The sources also told The Post that Trump canvassed the opinion of his guests at the exclusive resort, asking whether he should take a stand on gun control in the wake of the massacre.

And if the president was indeed watching the reaction of the surviving students, they sent a clear message to Trump: take action.

One is more than enough.

That we even have a variety of ways to count shootings is crazy.

Zero is the acceptable number.

Students seize control of gun debate, plan walkouts and march
by Phil McCausland and Safia Samee Ali

Students are taking hold of the gun debate in the wake of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, by organizing a series of school walkouts across the country and a march in Washington to protest gun violence.

The Women's March youth branch of students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School — the site of the Valentine's Day attack in Parkland that killed 17 people — and a Connecticut student who lives a short drive from Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, where 26 people were killed in 2012, are all working for events to take hold of the national conversation...
