More like a war zone. I live in Jax and it's become awful. Shootings every day.

Hi neighbor, I'm about 45 mins to an hour away. I am just so struck by children being targeted and there is no reason (not that there ever is, but sometimes it's over gang activity, drugs, etc). These children are just out of doors. I just am so horrified by this.

A 7-year-old boy killed in the crossfire of a gun battle Sunday night in front of a Durkeeville home was the fifth juvenile shot in 11 days in Jacksonville, police said.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Tashawn Gallon was playing in the front yard of a home on Mount Herman Street when an SUV pulled up and someone inside opened fire. Police said multiple people in the yard fired back.

An 11-year-old, a 13-year-old, a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old all survived being hit by gunfire in three separate incidents across the city.

From Jax's link above...

Williams said that among the people in the yard at the time were multiple people with felony convictions, and
at least one of them has an active gang affiliation
.
Williams said Holcomb was among those who witnessed the shooting but are not cooperating with the investigation.

Looks like gang violence and the little 7yr old was caught in the crossfire :tears:

I'm not surprised. That's a bad area.

In July, the department launched shot-spotter sensors that hear gunfire and immediately alert officers.

Investigators say a sensor within a five-mile radius of the shooting was activated Sunday night, but a neighbor also called 911. Spellman believes it’s going to take more than just the sensors to cut down on crime.

interesting crime-fighting technology
also very sad that it's come to that

Tragic ! How many more have to die from a gun ? Come on , this really needs addressing and the laws tightened up as I never see a USA without guns as it’s gone too far ! I’m so thankful that we don’t have legal firearms ( other than shotgun with very stringent conditions renewable every year ) !!
