A human skull was found on Friday evening by a landowner near the intersection of State Highway 51 and McCrary Road west of Tahlequah. Further searching by authorities with the help of cadaver dogs on Saturday yielded more remains, along with some clothing, hunting boots and hotel lotion.
Preliminary indications suggest the remains have been at the site of discovery for about six months, and belong to a man age 40-60. The District Attorney's Office said Saturday that the remains were in the possession of the Medical Examiner's Office, which is attempting to determine a cause of death.
Investigators say they are having difficulty finding leads because there are no recent reports in the area of anyone going missing.
On Saturday, the District Attorney's Office said there was no immediately obvious link to the remains and any open missing person case in Cherokee County.
