7th grader takes gun to school, shoots himself in temple in school bathroom. In hospital now. Items for deflection (ammo and Molotov cocktails) found in backpack, no bomb.

What in hell is happening to these children? Where will we go to find answers? How can someone not be able to buy alcohol but yet buy an AR?

What changes need to be made to the Constitution? This may be the wrong forum for my responses/questions? As an ethno-historian and student of Constitutional History...what can I say that has not already been said? This is AGONY.

The student shot himself in a boy’s restroom at the middle school about 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, 10 minutes before school was scheduled to begin. Authorities released few new details during a 2 p.m. news briefing.

Brink said the student used a .22 rifle. Jackson Local Schools Superintendent Chris DiLoreto said the district’s best defense to prevent students from bringing firearms to school is working with parents.

"They wouldn’t tell us what was going on. I thought there was a school shooting. There was a lot of waiting,” eighth-grader Alex Garcia said. “I didn’t have any idea there was someone with a gun until I was released.”

"
That Florida shooting just happened, and you keep thinking about your kid,” said parent Daniela Biller, who has three students at the middle school. “I just bawled my eyes out watching the Florida shooting and thinking about what if it was my kids.”

This is getting ridiculous.

Again its time for metal detectors at each door of the school and strict locked doors with strict enter/exit procedures.

Its becoming an epidemic and we have to do something fast to stop all the copycats.

Glad to hear that it was only himself that he shot. Wish they would all do that.

Sorry I'm a Luddite and don't do well with posts in reply---an .22? Damn I have one which is never used. Spouse must be waiting for an apocalypse.

How the heck did he get a 22 rifle in with no one noticing?

A lot of .22 rifles are fairly compact. My daughter’s little single shot .22 rifle that I bought for her when she was 8 years old, is only 2 1/2 feet long and weighs less than 3 pounds.

<backs slowly out of thread>

Be careful in here, y'all.

OMG. Please, let's help make this stop. All those confused and scared kids.

No child, no parent, no community deserves this horror and fear.

Four elementary schools were locked down.

If he attempted suicide, I dream for a day when the means wasn't so easily available to him and that he had access to any care he needed so this wouldn't happen in the first place. It's depressing.

Glad to hear that it was only himself that he shot. Wish they would all do that.

Sorry what are "distractionary devices?"

From the link: "Authorities defined "distractionary-type" devices as something that would grab a person's attention by creating smoke or a loud noise."

I don’t know how anyone can be glad about that, that a little kid shot himself. Yes, thank god nobody else was hurt, and I get what you’re saying.

This same scenario happened at my daughter’s high school three months ago. The boy died in the school bathroom. It was terrifying. It was parents’ day and hundreds of parents were visiting including me. [emoji853]

According to the PC the student brought the gun to school. He rode the bus then entered the school. When asked if the school had metal detectors, the answer was no.

This is really horrible, how did this child get ahold of a gun?

I’m not glad the kid shot himself, but glad that since he was apparently going to do that anyway, that he didn’t decide to kill a bunch of other innocent kids before he killed himself.

Nothing I can say any more will be a help, but I am so sorry to hear this. Just knowing of a suicide in their “space” is bad enough for kids, and it will stay with their memories. :tears:
