[h=1]Who killed Ross Magill?[/h] [h=2]Police seek mysterious person of interest[/h]By James Dubro Jan 12, 2009
More than six months after Ross Magill was brutally murdered in a bloody attack at his Yonge and St Clair area home police are appealing to members of Toronto’s gay community and a mysterious “person of interest” for information.

“There are people in the community who know who did this,” says lead homicide investigator Det Sgt Daniel Nielsen. “We want them to come forward.”

Magill, 64, was brutally stabbed to death on the evening of Jul 14, 2008 after opening the door of his apartment at 40 Delisle Ave, near Yonge and St Clair in Toronto. Witnesses say at least two men entered the building just before the attack. Nielsen says one of them has been questioned but the identity of the other remains unclear.

CRIME HUNTER: The killing season
“I think this is personal — I really do,” Toronto Police Det.-Sgt. Dan Nielsen told The Toronto Sun.

The cop was talking about the July 14, 2008 murder of interior designer William Ross Magill.

Magill was a beloved figure. Generous, respected. But there was a dark underbelly emerging in the 64-year-old’s life.

He had developed a cocaine habit that included frequent visits from young male junkies — likely prostitutes — to his midtown apartment.

Cops suspect his sordid secret life may have been the reason he was murdered.

On the night of the slaying, he answered the door to his apartment and two young men entered. Words were exchanged.

Minutes later, McGill was dying from stab wounds. Unbeknownst to his killers, in another room, a young guest listened to the horror unfolding.

“There was nothing about him to dislike,” said a friend, who didn’t want to be identified. “He was a lovable person. … Obviously, he was troubled.”

The friend added: “We couldn’t, at the end of the day, sort of save him from himself.”
