I have submitted the following potential match to Amy Dobbs @ NamUs. Based on the identifiers below that are shown in green and the fact that only a three year period lapsed between the MP's disappearance and the UID's discovery, I believe this UID is a strong possibility as being Mr. Barnes' remains. Considering that Mr. Barnes' profile doesn't have any specific destinations described other than searching through "various dumpsters" presumably around Memphis, it's quite possible he ended up in the woods where the UID was located.
I find it hard to believe that Memphis investigators haven't compared the two cases but I've seen enough to know stranger things have happened in MP and UID cases. Three years in a high crime area such as Memphis is plenty of time for paperwork to get lost or misplaced, cases tend to go cold and/or prioritized lower on the investigators' file lists, and investigators get transferred or replaced quicker than say in smaller jurisdictions or ones with lower crime rates. I'll sleep better knowning I submitted it...just in case.
