M25 rapist dead: Antoni Imiela who attacked nine women and young girls before being jailed in 2004 collapses in jail during bid to win parole

Notorious M25 rapist Antoni Imiela has died behind bars at the age of 63.

Imiela died at Wakefield Prison today after suffering heart problems.

He became known as the M25 rapist after being convicted of the rape of nine women and girls in London, Surrey, Kent, Berkshire, Hertfordshire and Birmingham between 1987 and 2002.

I for one am pleased he died before he had any chance of release.

To think he was up for parole is mind boggling.

I agree. The fact that his 7 life sentences were reduced to what could have been as little as 8 years served, or one year and a couple of months per victim, is horrifying. When the death penalty was abolished for murder in the 1960s it was on the promise that a life sentence meant life. In the US that's usually expressed as "life without parole". In the UK it used to be "life plus 99 years". Something has gone very badly wrong with British criminal justice when the rape of a 10 year old effectively earns a year in jail.

And he could have been out in 2012 if he hadn't then been given a further 12 years for another set of rapes.

Effectively it became a whole life order for this cur.

Yes, but only by sheer luck in the end.

He might well not have been granted parole this time round, but the chances of him not being paroled at some stage were pretty small.
