The police are on a large-scale deployment in Münster: According to SPIEGEL information, a vehicle crashed into a crowd. Several people died and many were injured. Meanwhile, the police also have confirmed this.

The authorities are currently assuming that this is an assault. According to the police, the perpetrator shot himself. The situation is still unclear, police said on Twitter.

The "Rheinische Post" reports three dead, citing police circles. According to police reports, 30 people were injured. Some of them appear to be in mortal danger.

According to BILD, the driver's body is still in or on the car. Investigators are checking the car for explosives. According to BILD information, there is still a bag in the car.

Part of the old town is closed off. Fire brigade, police ambulances and ambulances are on the road in the city centre. All available police forces and special units of North Rhine-Westphalia were ordered to Münster. Bordering districts send rescue teams. Helicopters are circling the city.

(CNN)A delivery vehicle slammed into a crowd Saturday in an apparently deliberate attack in the German city of Muenster, killing several people and leaving 30 others injured, police said.

The driver has shot and killed himself, a police spokeswoman said. There is no official confirmation yet on how many people have died.

Police: Apparently no more suspects

The police assume that the danger has been averted.

No more suspects are being sought, says a police spokeswoman.

Several injured persons were in mortal danger. It is still unclear whether this was an attack. "We're investigating in all directions."

The Münster police describe reports of another perpetrator, who could still be on the run, as speculation.

A police spokeswoman said on Saturday that the investigation was still in its early stages. Several media reported that the emergency services were looking for a second perpetrator in Münster.

On Twitter the police wrote: "Please stop the speculation." And: "The spreading of rumors does not help us."

The German news agency dpa has quoted police as saying the driver of the car has killed himself. Police in Muenster, a city in western Germany, say a large-scale operation is underway near the Kiepenkerl pub, a popular bar in the city’s historic downtown area.

Death toll of the attack is still 3, but German authorities also include the perpetrator as a victim.

Really lovely. In Angela Merkel's Germany, vans are self-driving, and guns kill people of their own accord.

According to the Münster police, the attack occurred at 3.27 pm. A VW-Bulli drove over the Drubbel in the direction of Prinzipalmarkt, then turned off with high speed in the direction of Kiepenkerl. There the car raced into the seats set up in front of the Kiepenkerl. There are supposed to be three or four dead, six seriously injured. The injured were taken to hospitals in Münster and treated there. The task forces are gathering at the theatre. There would be explosives in the VW-Bulli, special forces are on site and plan to defuse the explosives. Whether this is a terrorist attack is uncertain.


The car is supposed to be full of explosives. There is a rumour that the perpetrator or perpetrators wanted to set up some kind of explosives trap to kill more people. The police do not confirm this at the moment.


According to police, there are rumours after the incident in Münster that two more people might have jumped out of the van and escaped. But that is not a certainty and must now be verified, a police spokesman said.
