Such a confusing case. Couple have a daughter, she is adopted out, seeks out bio parents and moves in with them. Her bio father and she have a sexual relationship. He leaves his wife and takes off with his own daughter. They have a baby together. Both are charged with incest. Courts separate them and put the baby with father's mother. Daughter moves back in with her adoptive father. Breaks up over the phone with her bio father. He then picks up the baby from his mother, goes back to his home, kills the baby. Drives up to confront his 'wife' who is with her adoptive father. He shoots into the vehicle where she is riding with her adoptive father. He kills both of them. Drives into New York and then kills himself.

I live in CT and from what I understand, the only reason why they were in New Milford was to run errands - right over the NY/CT state line. New Milford is a town of 27,000... quiet area.

Maybe Katie’s adoptive parents didn’t realize that Steven Pladl was Katie’s bio father. She may have misrepresented his identity.

What a twisted tale. And he used an AR-15 to kill Katie and her father...sick

ETA: correction: on the news, they just said it’s unknown how the baby was killed.

I’m replying to your comment about the adoptive parents being at the wedding (I use my iPhone so no clue how to bold).
I too found it very surprising they were there and it seemed they were there to support Katie. I honestly feel they knew he was bio dad, seeing pics of him from 20 yrs ago he doesn’t look much different. So my guess is they know his face? Maybe not, but I do think that they were there to support their daughter, regardless if they knew or not. IMOO of course :)

I don't see how. She moved in with the bio dad and bio mom when she turned 18. So adoptive parents presumably had to know who he was.
 
I'm thinking he tracked his wife by her phone because they were in her dad's car (I think) doing errands in CT.

You mean his daughter? Speculation is, he might have told her he had the child and she went with he adoptive father to see the child.

I am confused why his mother was given the child (who was both her grandchild and great-grand child) to raise. Seems like if the kid was in a foster home and he didn't know where the kid was, the kid at least could still be alive today. Sounds like grandma/great-grandma let him take the kid and only called police after he confessed he killed the child.

"Then shortly before midnight on Wednesday evening, Steven told his mother he was taking the baby to see Katie in New York. This would violate the terms of his bond, amended by Henrico County Judge Stewart Williams."

The daughter had a bright future l until she decided to go find her bio dad.

Ex-wife/bio mom so far seems to be the only adult in either family who kept a straight head dealing with this situation.
