Former first lady Barbara Bush in failing health
Michael Graczyk, Associated Press

Houston – Former first lady Barbara Bush is in “failing health” and won’t seek additional medical treatment, a Bush family spokesman said Sunday.

“Following a recent series of hospitalizations, and after consulting her family and doctors, Mrs. Bush, now age 92, has decided not to seek additional medical treatment and will instead focus on comfort care,” spokesman Jim McGrath said in a news release.

McGrath did not elaborate as to the nature of Bush’s health problems. She has been treated for decades for Graves’ disease, which is a thyroid condition...

I sure hope she finds peace.

I still remember her comment about the Hurricane Katrina evacuees who had been relocated to Houston.

"They're underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them"

Such a voice of compassion (not). So many people had lost not only their homes and all their material possessions, but - even worse - had lost beloved family members. Oh - but, according to Ms. Bush, "this is working very well for them".

In addition, she was also quoted as saying "What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas"

Let us not forget one of her other infamous quotes, when asked during a GMA interview with Diane Sawyer to comment on the impending U.S. "Shock and Awe" attack against Iraq: ''Why should we hear about body bags and deaths and how many, what day it's gonna happen? . . . It's not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?''

I won't waste my tears on the likes of someone such as this.

She was also a huge advocate for literacy and education. I wish only comfort and peace for Mrs Bush and her family during this time. ✌️❤️

Paraphrasing interview I saw on CNN last evening: Mrs. Bush went to hospital on Good Friday (March 30). Was having difficulty breathing. After 10 days, she was ready to leave even though physician wanted her to remain hospitalized. She left hospital Sunday, April 8. Announcement about her failing health came one week later.
