William Halas was reported missing on November 11, 1971 by his mother, who lived in Ohio. Halas lived in Greensboro, VT and evidence indicates that he may have been murdered.
There have been numerous unidentified bodies throughout the years but none have proven to be Halas.

Please help find a photo of William and more info.

William's date of birth is 11 Jun 1950.
His middle name was his mother's maiden name.
There was another William Halas born in Ohio in 1949-- so they may be hard to tell apart in some records.
If looking for yearbook photos make sure you have the right William Halas.
William's brother graduated from John Marshall high school in Cleveland, OH. That would be the most likely place to start looking for a yearbook photo: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Marshall_High_School_(Ohio)

William's father passed away in Apr 1971 from complications after surgery.
(I found his obituary and a newspaper article about his death, but won't post it here. I only mention his cause of death because it seems likely that it had nothing to do with whatever happened to William).

This family had a bad year in 1971 :(

Can anyone help find more info and get William entered in NAMUS? Perhaps he has been found as a John Doe but it is unlikely a match will be made without DNA in NAMUS. We do not even have his height, weight, eye color, hair color, etc.

He’s been added to NamUs. Still no photo.

Well, it says that he's from Ohio, but he went to Goddard College, which is off of Route 2, just outside of East Montpelier. If you follow Route 14 north, eventually you come to Greensboro, which is very close to Craftsbury. This is very picturesque and remote and fairly rugged country. Craftsbury is famous for Circus Smirkus, which was very hippie inspired, and indeed the whole area was pretty chockablock with hippie off-the-gridders during this time, and to a certain extent still today. So, it's not too surprising to find out that he had built himself a place. I think students at Goddard were generally very attracted to that sort of tune in, turn on, drop out sort of thing.

It's certainly a place where someone could have an accident and not be found. I also know from having been a student at Dartmouth just over the river from 1978-82, that there were a lot of pretty sophisticated pot grow operations in VT at the time, though to overcome the growning season limitations people had to utilize a substantial amount of power in those remote locations, which also was kind of a giveaway to LE. Nothing here says that there was any evidence of such an operation here, but it would have been a likely driver of foul play, given the time and place. At this late date, it would be nice if the State Police would share more of whatever their investigations turned up, if anything. And almost certainly living out there he would have likely had a vehicle, but I don't see anything about that.
