Why would she message a friend and not call 911 herself?

Guessing she texted a friend so it was quiet. A phone call would be heard by the guy/friend who took her.

Text at least would provide a ping.

Amazing in this day with all the warnings that this still can happen meeting strangers online.

Text to 911 is coming, though, thankfully, for these types of situations, and many others. (assuming the situation is legitimately as reported. We have been misled in the past but let's assume this is as reported.)

The linked article is about Arizona, but there is a cool map in the article about other counties who already have text to 911 for some situations:

I just got here after a friend in KY shared this over FB. :scared:

I hope they can get more details about this individual!

Also, BBM, this is amazing.

Has anyone found any social media accounts for her? Does she have a Facebook page, Instagram, Twitter, etc.?

Girl, 15, goes missing after walking out of school at 10am to meet a stranger she met online and then messaging a friend begging for help

Authorities believe she met the person through a social media account. After leaving school with them, she sent a message to a friend saying she was possibly going to Ohio and asking them to call the police.

'The whole thing is really concerning,' said Lt. Jake Reed, of the Berea Police Department to WKYT.

'She's a teenage girl, she's left with someone that she doesn't really know, and her parents are concerned about her.'

Authorities believe she may be traveling in a white Chevy Malibu. Amber is considered missing, but does not yet meet the qualifications for an AMBER Alert.

'Teenagers shouldn't speak to people they don't know,' Lt. Reed said.

'They shouldn't give out personal information or try to meet up with people they meet on any social media platform.'

Somewhat O/T: I wish they would teach this in school, publish it on billboards, make TV commercials about it and put that advice/warning on every form of social media. Not that it would deter all of them, but maybe some teens would pause before getting in a stranger's car.

I can't find anything for her. Complicating matters-- there is a girl with her same name in Berea, KY who is 21 years old.

Found moms name/fb in the link in the first post.
Also snipped from moms comments

""I don't even know if that was her texting or not. I don't know,"
Police said that Amber could have met the person in the white car through social media. Her mom remembers her talking about a boy, but wasn't told much else.

"She's known him for about three years now or four - somewhere around there. He lives in Michigan and I'm thinking that's him," she said.

ETA no Amber in friends list. There is a male with the same last name located in Ohio, maybe just a coincidence.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Police in Berea say they wouldn’t describe a missing teen’s case as human trafficking based on what they know right now, but they do think 15-year-old Amber Renae Wagers could have been taken out of the state.

Police say the teen walked out of school Wednesday at 10 a.m. to meet with someone she may have met online.

“It’s definitely troubling,” Lt. Jake Reed said.
Reed says she may have left intentionally, but she’s a kid and her parents are worried.
“This case is not something we see every day, but it’s also not unique. I mean this kind of thing happens all the time all over the country,” Reed said.

Is it a case of human trafficking? Reed says based on what officers know right now it’s not.

“Once we locate her and we talk to her and we find out exactly who this person is there are a lot of possibilities that could happen,” Reed said.
Off camera, some of her classmates told me they’re surprised she chose to leave school.
They described her as quiet and always kind. They told me they were still getting texts and snapchats from her number Thursday morning. They just don’t know if it’s her.
The Superintendent sent out a letter to parents explaining what had happened.
Reed urges parents to know what kind of social media sites their kids are on and how they’re interacting with people on those sites.
