Details of Disappearance
Martin resided with her two older sisters; her aunt, Tamara Lynette Robinson; and Robinson's young child in an apartment complex in the 4400 block of west Avalon Avenue in Fresno, California in 2003. Robinson reported her as a missing person at 1:30 a.m. on September 9, 2003. She stated that Martin had run away from home.
Only hours after the report was made, authorities arrested Robinson and charged her with abusing Martin's sisters; court documents stated that both girls had been severely beaten, one with a shower rod. Police stated publicly that they also suspected Robinson of murdering her missing niece. Robinson is not believed to have abused her own daughter, however.

Investigators received information from an undisclosed source that Martin did not disappear in September 2003, but was in fact beaten to death by her aunt in July or August 2003 because she was unable to do physical exercises. Her body was allegedly disposed of in a trash bin about a week after her death and would have been taken from there to the American Avenue Landfill on American Avenue and Highway 145 in Fresno. One of Martin's older sisters says she witnessed the crime, and both of them say they were forced to help dispose of their sister's remains and clean the apartment of bloodstains. Robinson then allegedly concealed Martin's disappearance for the rest of the summer and only reported her missing after the child's school began making inquiries about her when she did not show up to start the fall term.

Authorities spent two weeks searching the landfill for Martin's remains, but did not find them. Over a year after the child was reported missing, Robinson was finally charged with murdering her. She has pleaded not guilty to murder and to the child abuse charges and is awaiting trial. Robinson has denied intentionally hurting the child and insinuated that Martin's sisters were the ones responsible for her death.

Martin was a fourth-grade student at Toby Lawless Elementary School at the time of her disappearance. She lived with Robinson for about 18 months prior to being reported missing; she and her sisters moved in after her mother lost her job and could no longer financially support the girls. Martin's remains have never been found but foul play is suspected in her case due to the circumstances involved.
