Wetumpka man charged with soliciting a minor in computer sting

By Marty Roney
Montgomery Advertiser

PRATTVILLE — A Wetumpka man has been nabbed on a sex charge after coming to Prattville Monday to allegedly have sex with a 14-year-old boy. The “victim” was a Prattville police officer posing as the young man in an Internet chat room.

James David Hungerford, 29, 207 Ross Road faces a charge of soliciting a child by computer, said Police Chief Alfred Wadsworth. He remained in the Elmore County Jail Tuesday afternoon under a bond of $20,000, jail records showed. He could not be reached for comment. Jail records did not show if he has hired an attorney.

Hungerford came to a Prattville park Monday to allegedly meet the boy, Wadsworth said. He was charged early Tuesday. His home was searched with the assistance of the Wetumpka Police Department, records show. Wadsworth wouldn’t comment on the outcome of the search, citing the ongoing investigation.

“Predators meeting children on the internet has become a national epidemic,” Wadsworth said. “Everyone is familiar with the TV news programs that use adults posing as children to lure sex offenders to homes. Even with that attention and the previous arrest we made, we have no problem chit chatting with perverts.”
