<snip>

On March 14, 2005 at 9:40 a.m., an unidentified female subject was found deceased in the 1600 block of Santa Monica beach. The victim was possibly a German National having recently arrived in the United States. She has a possible first name of “Martina” and spoke with a heavy German accent. She is thought to have been homeless and to have frequented the Santa Monica and Venice beach areas.

Not that I can tell. I had originally found a more recent article, but the one I linked had more info and pictures. Maybe this thread should be moved to cold cases.

Observations on this:

It is said that she was homeless, but had blond highlights. I am curious if they were natural (from the sun) or chemical highlights? If she had chemical highlights, she had to have some kind of money to pay for them. Perhaps homeless only a few weeks/months? (It does say she frequented the beach area only about two weeks.) Also, if she was German, why was the tattoo in English, not German? If she were found in the ocean, how do they know her eye color? Based on observations of others before her death?

If she was a transient I would assume the highlights to be caused by the sun; but you're right...a better explanation is needed.

There is a link on Namus for her. Sadly no pictures, but it does have a small list of rule-outs.

Very much a longshot, a German tourist who went missing after phoning her parents in 1993 upon her arrival in Tasmania. She normally worked as a travel agent so maybe moving between countries would have been less of a big deal to her than most. The recon looks a little like her, even though she is recorded as black hair/green eyes. Mostly I'm posting her so that if we get post mortem pictures or dental pictures later, whoever starts working on this Doe then can be reminded to make a quick comparison just to be sure.

Here is my facial reconstruction for this Jane Doe.

i wouldn't totally rule out the possibility she is hispanic. I myself am full hispanic and I have naturally dark red hair and light skin, lots of hispanics are very, very light. Just letting you know :) Looking at your reconstruction, she does look like she could be hispanic or Caucasian. Considering the Jane Doe is 4'9", i am betting she probably was hispanic.

:bump: for image revision.

I had this recon posted to the wrong thread (473UFCA), so in addition to posting the revised recon, I moved the posts to the correct thread.

Both Jane Does were found near the Santa Monica pier. This is the Jane Doe who spoke with a German accent, had "Thank You" tattooed on her wrist, and was found in the ocean near the pier.

(This is not the Jane Doe 473UFCA who was on a bench next to the pier. That Jane Doe is the topic of the following thread)

Just so someone mentions it, there are International foreign visitors in nearby Mexico. She might have snuck through the border crossing with the intention of applying for citizenship in the U.S.

So very sad.

Just a thought - can German accents be confused with other accents?

Recently I lost quite a bit of my hearing and everything these days sounds different... I often get accents mixed up.

Sure. People confuse accents all the time. Just don't confuse a Boston accent for a New York accent. You might make someone very mad. LOL

People tend to lump all northern accents as the same, but NY, Boston...even Maine are all quite different.
