there have been a number of African American females who have disappeared from Florida mostly in the 70s and 80s. I wonder if this case could be connected

Here are the African American females missing from the 70's and 80's:

is it just me or does the reconstruction in the doe network link Donjeta provided look male to anyone else?

I wonder if this UID was ever looked at as being possibly related to the Lake Mann murders. I just realized this case looks pretty similar to them and I think there could be a connection, based on the limited info we have.
The two Lake Mann murders were confirmed to be related. One of the girls in that case was identified a few months ago as Nancy Grace Daniel, but the other girl remains unidentified.

The similarities I see:
- All were teenagers
- All were African-American
- All had the same general description (5'2 - 5'6, slender, black hair, etc)
- All found in lakes
- The timeline is pretty close. The first body was found in Lake Mann in January 1977, the second just two months after that, and then this girl in Leesburg about 1 1/2 years after
- The murders are estimated to have taken place around the same time of year. The first girl found died around August, the second girl between September and November, and the Leesburg girl in very early October
- Leesburg is about 45 miles from Lake Mann

There are a few inconsistencies, though:
- The Leesburg girl was bound and gagged, the Lake Mann girls weren't (as far as we know)
- She was also nude, while the Lake Mann girls were clothed

The CoD for the two Lake Mann girls is undetermined, so I can't really draw any connections based on that.

That close-cropped style was quite popular with black women in the 70's into the 80's. My DIL's grandmother still wears hers like that.

I wish we could get a much better recon!

Does anyone remember the name of the mother and teenaged daughter who went missing from FL/GA? The mother's body was found and identified a couple of years ago. IIRC, the mother was buried with/ next to another Jane Doe, who was not her daughter. Her daughter is still missing and has never been found. The Jane Doe has not been identified either.

I remember bits and pieces from that case. I think the mother's name was Diane and her daughter's name was Tiffany, and they went missing in '79.

Also, I'm definitely not an expert on teenage girl fashion trends in the late 70s, but her hairstyle is kind of odd, in my opinion. I'm assuming the NCMEC reconstruction was made using a postmortem photo as a reference point (like a lot of the color NCMEC reconstructions), and her hair is obviously extremely short. It looks like it was cut right before this girl was killed, and I'm wondering if the killer might have done it.

I doubt there's any connection here, but I remember the case of a teenage girl who was abducted and murdered along with her boyfriend by a serial killer in the early 90s, and in addition to all sorts of other horrible forms of torture, the killer cut off the girl's hair.

Hmmm bound with white wire coat hangars. That means they were from a dry cleaners back then. They were slightly heavier gauge than a non-white, every day wire coat hanger from my memory. To bind someone, the hanger had to be unwound, straightened then cut with wire cutters. That requires time & hand strength. So who has their shirts cleaned and carries wire cutters? Someone who wears a uniform? An electrician, appliance repairman, small engine repairman?

Two bandanas, so who wore these back then? Who has extras on them? Landscapers for sun protection? Motorcycle riders who chose not to wear helmets? It’s hot here in October. I remember helmets were not a thing back then. Special hats for landscapers were not a thing either.

ETA: I bet the wire cutters were used to cut off her fingernails because she scratched the perp in self defense. If she kept them really short intentionally, their length wouldn’t be noteworthy.

From the way her hair and nails are described, it sounds like they were extreme, inferring maybe the murderer did the cutting? Was she being held as a sex slave? If so, we might want to look at young girls missing years before.

There are some hobbies or professions where people would want to keep their fingernails really short, like making pottery, gardening, farming, working around animals, and certain kinds of factory work. However, the fact that they were painted red is strange and it doesn’t explain why her toenails were also so short.

Lesbians also usually keep their nails quite short, just sayin.
