In a rural Frederick County, Va., neighborhood where front doors are generally left open and keys in the ignition, residents spoke of a stolen solitude yesterday -- one torn from them in a barrage of bullets that killed four members of a family Thursday.
Gone were Samuel W. Orndorff, 60; his 19-year-old daughter, Amanda; her toddler son [Christopher], almost 2; and a 17-year-old high school junior whom the family had taken in as one of its own... Officers found Amanda in a bedroom, her father sitting in a vehicle outside and the teenager, who neighbors say was named Travis [Putnam], in a small cottage-like home next door...
About 1:30 a.m. yesterday, authorities arrested Jessi A. Jephson, 20, and charged him in the slayings... Eckman said they were still investigating the motive, but relatives and neighbors said that Amanda Orndorff had recently broken up with Jephson.
