Details of Disappearance
Garrett "Gary" Hughes was reported missing from the Manor House on Thanksgiving Day, 2003. Hughes suffered two blows to the head when he was 30-years-old and doesn’t remember things that have happened since then. Originally from Fayetteville, North Carolina, the family thought he might be trying to return to the Fayetteville area. There have been several searches in South Carolina and in the Fayetteville, North Carolina area, which have produced no results. There have only been a few possible sightings reported of Hughes, due to media coverage in North and South Carolina, flyers, and word of mouth, but all leads were exhausted after they were investigated.

Garrett Hughes had lived at Manor House for about three years. He would sometimes wander to a nearby church, but then return to Manor House, said his brother, Joseph Hughes.

His family, the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, city police and Winyah Rescue Squad conducted a countywide search after his disappearance.

Since then, Joseph Hughes has continued the search.

He has asked television talk shows and other media outlets to distribute information about his brother.

He has printed fliers and has asked other family members to be on the lookout for his brother.

"That don't sound like a lot, but for somebody who's been missing that long, you don't know which way to turn," he said.

Man who disappeared seven years ago still missing

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office is still hoping someone will come forward with information about a man who disappeared on Thanksgiving Day in 2003.

Garrett (Gary) Hughes vanished from the now-closed Manor House Independent Living Facility which was in Kensington.

When asked what he thinks happened to his brother, Hughes said he believes one of the former Manor House residents is responsible although he would not give the person’s name.

“He had to be driven off because he was in no shape to walk very far.

“They had a part-time resident there who had a car but they would not let him bring it on the premises. He kept the car at his girlfriend’s house,” Hughes said.

He said both that man and his girlfriend were questioned by investigators and they both had different stories about how they spent Thanksgiving.
