Authorities have identified a person of interest, 24-year old Walter Fayall of St. Stephens, who is wanted on a federal warrant.

Along highways near Lincolnville, about 20 miles west of Charleston, electronic signs list a fugitive alert and describe the car that left the scene.

The officer, a state constable who works as a volunteer for the Lincolnville Police Department, made a traffic stop about 10:30 p.m. Monday, Benton said.

“He cleared from the traffic stop, and about four minutes later, the sheriff’s office received a call that there were shots fired in the area,” Benton said. “We found a gun and blood.”

I don't know if this is the car description being flashed on the highway signs or not

According to Captain Mike Benton with Charleston County Sheriff's Office, authorities have a description of a car they're looking for seen in the area, an older model chevy caprice sedan black in color. Authorities say they will be searching throughout the morning.

My prayers go out for this man and his family....

Cannon says the 66-year-old Bailey reported off a traffic stop shortly after 10:00 Monday night. There were reports of gunfire about three blocks away, but Cannon says police don't think the shooting was related to the traffic stop.

Bailey's patrol car was later found burned about three miles away behind a church. His hat, bullet casings and blood were found a few blocks from where he made the traffic stop.

I have an awful feeling they will find/have found him in the trunk. :(

A vehicle believed related to the case of a missing constable was found near Bowman on Friday.

But Robert Lee Bailey, who officials believe has been killed, was not found, Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon said at the scene. "There is no body in the vehicle.''

The sheriff said that although he does not believe the body will be found near the car, "We are obviously obligated to search the area for any evidence out here."

I hate that they think he is dead, but I think we all thought that. I pray they find him soon.

Where on earth could he be? did the guy that was stopped for the traffic violation..... kill him and place him in his car to dispose of the body later? wouldn't there be evidence in the car? This is a strange one.....

I will keep the family in my prayers.... I hope he is found soon!

Authorities say searchers looking for a state constable found a shallow grave near Interstate 26 in Orangeburg County Saturday afternoon.

Charleston County sheriff's spokesman John Clark says a special team from Columbia has been called to dig up the body, which has not been identified.

Clark says new information from the girlfriend of the chief suspect in the case led searchers to the area near the state Highway 33 exit not far from Cameron.

The body found in a shallow grave near Interstate 26 is likely that of a missing law enforcement officer, but a positive identification has not been made, the Charleston County Coroner said Sunday.

"We have not positively identified the body," Coroner Rae Wooten said. "But we have reason to believe it's him."
