Girl's eye glued in drops mix-up

A seven-year-old girl has been told she will not lose her sight after her eye was glued shut in a bizarre accident. Michelle Skidmore, from east Cleveland, accidentally used nail glue instead of eye drops to treat her daughter.

Doctors have said Karen - who could not open her eye for three days - may have suffered a scratched cornea.

Ms Skidmore said the two containers were almost identical and she felt "awful" at what happened.

She urged other parents to carefully check medication before giving it to their children.

Ms Skidmore said: "On Friday she [Karen] was diagnosed with conjunctivitis and I went to give the drops to her.

"Unfortunately I had some nail glue in the cupboard at the time and I picked up that instead.

"When I realised what I had done it was too late as her eye was glued shut by then.

"She can see through her eye now, but it is only half open."

Ms Skidmore admitted it had been a "stupid" mistake, but was taking advice from Trading Standards and a solicitor about it.

She added: "The bottles are very, very similar in colour - they are both lilac and pink - and they have even got a similar logo on them.

oh man! I did this once!
I was wearing my contacts and I used nail glue instead of my eye drops. I'll never ever ever forget that! Talk about PAIN! I was sooo scared too because I'm blind in one eye anyways and what do I do, put the glue in my good eye! Poor baby, I know she was in pain.

I was born blind in my left eye. I've been to many many doctors and specialists and they still do not know what's wrong with me. Whatever it is they said it is very rare, there are a few known cases of it and no reason why or how to correct it. My pupil is smaller in my left eye. No one notices it and people do not believe I'm blind til I tell them to look real close at my pupils. Everyone tells me if I could see out of it, I'd be in a whole new world I dunno what it's like to see out of both eyes so I don't know that I'm missing anything. (Although I will say I do bump into alot of crap without realizing it's there )

Btw Cass, enjoy your sigs, like how you keep changing them. I found myself searching out for one of your post so I could see what was new.

How terrible! I once knew a girl who accidently shampooed her hair with NAIR (hair remover). She had her hair wet, reached up thinking she had grabbed the shampoo and got the NAIR instead. She lost a good amount of hair and had to wear a wig until her hair grew out again...so watch those bottles you guys!!

ouch! hehe, that's not really funny but I can just imagine her face once she realized what she did

haha, Gummybear, you are in good company. My uncle was in the shower several years ago and the same thing happend to him. His wife was trying to get rid of a bunch of hair, and he was half bald anyway, so he reached up and grabed her hair ve gone bottle and used it...to make a long story short...he no longer needs a hair brush! lol
