Case File 455UFOH

Reconstruction:
455UFOH.jpg

Unidentified White Female

The victim was discovered on July 2, 1983 in Columbus, Delaware County, Ohio
Estimated Date of Death: undetermined; may have been about a week.
Cause of Death: ligature strangulation

Vital Statistics

Estimated age: 16-25 years old
Approximate Height and Weight: 5'4"; 102 lbs.
Distinguishing Characteristics: Dark hair; unknown eye color. She had a 3 1/2 inch scar over left quadrant of abdomen.
Dentals: Available extensive dentistry
Clothing: White shirt with red and yellow stripes, blue jeans, maroon - colored slip-on shoes. The clothing found on the body didn't fit properly, suggesting that it wasn't hers.
Fingerprints: Available
DNA: Not Available
AKA: Mary Rose Doe

Case History
The partially decomposed victim was located in the Hoover Reservoir, Columbus, Ohio by two fishermen on the morning of July 2, 1983.
Authorities believe the woman was killed somewhere other than the reservoir. It's likely she was dead about a week before her body was found; her body was too decomposed to determine whether she had been sexually assaulted.
High school students from four Roman Catholic parishes memorialized the unidentified woman who was found strangled in 1983. The students raised money to buy a grave marker to be dedicated October 31, 1998 at St. Joseph Cemetery, 6440 S. High St., at the grave of ''Mary Rose Doe,'' the name they gave an unidentified woman whose body was found in the Hoover Reservoir in Delaware County.
The victim's body spent 14 months in the Franklin County Morgue until St. Joseph Cemetery claimed and buried it in October 1984.
The victim's teeth and jawbone were extracted before she was buried, but efforts to make matches with dental records in national databases have proved fruitless.

It'll be the 24th anniversary of this girl's death in 6 days. She wasn't much older than me and was located on July 2nd which is my birthday :( . I can light up an extra candle for her and Baby Hope on my cake, so that they know that someone cares about them ;) but also give them a birthday they'll never have

Because it has been so long without significant comment on finding a match for this poor Doe, I'll make an a small effort by posting a few snippets about the local geography, as gleaned from wikipedia. Nothing special, but maybe it will jog someone else's thoughts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoover_Dam_(Ohio)
Hoover Dam, in Blendon Township, near Westerville, Ohio, dams the Big Walnut Creek to form the Hoover Memorial Reservoir. This reservoir is a major water source for the city of Columbus, Ohio. It holds 20.8 billion gallons of water and has a surface area of 3,272 acres, or about five square miles. [1] At less than a hundred feet high, the dam is, however, much smaller than the better-known Hoover Dam on the Colorado River.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Walnut_Creek
Big Walnut Creek starts near Mount Gilead, Ohio in Morrow County. It flows south to eastern Delaware County and parallels Alum Creek. It passes to the east of Sunbury and into Hoover Reservoir. The reservoir crosses into Franklin County and flows through Gahanna and Whitehall.

Pamela Lynn Neal looks pretty close, except for the distance. But nothing in the circumstances would be inconsistent with a long distance.

The ill fitting clothes may support the theory that she was held captive. I'm guessing an attractive young woman like Pamela, new to the town and doing a customer service job, would be particularly vulnerable to being stalked. I can definitely see this might be Pamela, the only other thing that would need explaining is the distance, but then again anyone who would stalk then snatch an otherwise well protected (has a room mate, doesn't go out much, doesn't work alone) girl in her lunch hour would probably also plan out the dumping of a body so it occured a long way from his home and at a time when he was unlikely to be suspected for being absent from his usual activities.

I called this possible in to Columbus Police Department, and spoke with Sgt. Sacksteder.

He wasn't familiar enough with the case to know whether Pamela Neal has been looked at, but he asked me to send him an e-mail with all of the relevant links, and he will assign the task to their missing persons unit to look into it.

ETA: He replied back to my e-mail as follows:

We have 2 large folders of info to go through. We will get back with you on this information.
Thanks for your interest in the case.

I just made a follow-up call to Sgt. Sacksteder. He contacted the Englewood Colorado LE authorities and found that Pamela Lynn Neal had already been checked and ruled-out. He did not know what the basis was for the rule-out.

I asked him if he had a rule-out list so that we can avoid duplicate submissions. He replied that he did not.

This UID is listed in Namus and they are listing her age between 23-29 yrs old. I understand that it's not too far off, from what the Doe Network lists
(16-25yrs) but wonder where The Doe Network and Namus get all the info about the UID from.

Here's the link https://identifyus.org/cases/4787

They also have one person listed as a rule out: Belinda VanLith missing from Minnesota Birth year is 1957...

Here's a newly listed NamUs case for a woman who looks alot like Mary Rose Doe.

Theresa Lorraine Davis

455UFOH.jpg

The age, timeline, and height are all pretty consistent.

Note that her photo with the baby was taken in 1971, and the portrait photo was taken in 1968. Since NamUs indicates she was 23 in 1983 when she disappeared, she would have had to have been approximately 11 and 8 (respectively) in those photos. Although she could be about 8 in the 1968 photo, she looks older than 11 in the 1971 photo.

I left an e-mail message with Rose Sacchetti (NamUs Case Manager for Theresa's MP casefile), and a voicemail message with Sgt. Sacksteder of the Columbus PD (i.e., the LE agency in charge of the UID case).

I Just received a reply from Rose Sacchetti indicating that the comparison is in progress.

She did not indicate if this was already on her radar prior to my e-mail. However, I contacted the Franklin County Coroner contact indicated in the UID's NamUs file earlier today, and the woman there indicated that they received a call about this case yesterday from Oklahoma.

She's not included on the updated list of rule-outs:

Susan Cappel 1962 Ohio
Susan Cerritelli 1956 Pennsylvania
Linda Reynolds 1952 Arkansas
Belinda VanLith 1957 Minnesota

A new update in Theresa L Davis' Charley Project page indicates that "Subsequent investigation showed Davis was alive and well in Tulsa in mid-1986, dancing in various clubs under the name "Fancy".

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/d/davis_theresa.html

That would rule her out as "Mary Rose Doe".

I know height and weight are off, but Launa Merritt seems to resemble Mary Rose Doe. She also has a note about an abdominal surgical scar just like Mary Rose Doe. I wonder if shes' ever been ruled out: http://doenetwork.org/cases/2447dfny.html

I was reading a book called "Dead Before Deadline" written by Robin Yocum that was published in 2004.

Robin Yocum was a crime reporter at the Columbus Dispatch newspaper in Columbus, Ohio during the early 1980's.

His book devoted almost two pages concerning Mary Rose Doe, the unid female whose body was found near Hoover Reservoir on July 2, 1983.

The book had some very interesting info regarding the autopsy of Mary Rose Doe that was not reported on the Doe Network or in the Columbus news media.

The autopsy revealed that Mary Rose Doe had some expensive dental work done. It didn't say what kind of expensive dental work was done on Mary Rose Doe. The expensive dental work led investigators to suspect that Mary Rose Doe could have come from an affluent family.

The autopsy revealed that Mary Rose Doe had a blood alcohol level of .32 at the time of her death.

While the book did confirm that Mary Rose Doe was strangled, it revealed that at the crime scene, a multicolored shirt was wrapped around her neck.

She's not included on the updated list of rule-outs:

Susan Cappel 1962 Ohio
Susan Cerritelli 1956 Pennsylvania
Linda Reynolds 1952 Arkansas
Belinda VanLith 1957 Minnesota

Lonene Rogers 1951 Pennsylvania has also been ruled out.

I've been looking forever for a photo of Kimberly Blackburn, who has been in NamUs for three years with a no-photo casefile .

Meaghan of Charley Project mentioned the Indianapolis Police Dept website on her blog. I took a look, and there she is.

Kimberly Marie Blackburn

She would seem to be a pretty good possible for Mary Rose Doe. Their noses sure look alike, their heights match, and her age is within range.

The big negative is that MRD doesn't have a rose tattoo on her hip, and Kimberly doesn't have a scar on her abdomen. It is not clear though whether the body was decomposed enough to obliterate the tattoo. But I would think that a 3 1/2 inch abdominal scar would have probably been mentioned.

Kimberly has DNA available, but Mary Rose Doe does not (according to NamUs). Fingerprints are available on both UP and MP though.

I see a resemblance, especially the nose and the mouth.. the eyes look different but we know how some reconstructions can be.. You should turn it in Carl, maybe she was decomposed to the point where the tattoo wasn't noticable.
