The suspect, Robert Ellis, was arrested after being pulled from the bushes at 8 a.m. He had a three-day growth of stubble and was in the same ragged sweatshirt the authorities believe he was wearing on Monday when, they say, he and another man, Dexter Bostic, fired shots at the officers.


Officials said a city police bloodhound picked up Mr. Ellis’s trail and, along with a German shepherd, pursued him. Mr. Ellis was hiding in a thicket, where the police said they found a container of peanut butter he had been eating to sustain himself while on the run.

Three guns — the Llama, a 9-millimeter Hi-Point pistol and a Tec-9 semiautomatic — were found in an alley near the vehicle. The Tec-9, which court papers said was being loaded during the shooting, was not fired at the officers. All three guns were illegal, and each has been traced.

Brooklyn cop-shooting suspects Dexter Bostick and Robert Ellis were arraigned on attempted murder charges before a sea of blue uniforms - and forced to give up DNA samples in court today.
In an unusual move, the judge ordered officers to swab the mouths of both men right in the courtroom, above the objections of their defense lawyers.
Bostick and Ellis, 34-year-old ex-con car salesmen, were nabbed in the Poconos earlier this week and hauled back to Brooklyn to face charges in Monday's shooting of Officers Russel Timoshenko and Herman Yan.
About 300 cops filled the room in Brooklyn Criminal Court and clapped vigorously after the suspects were denied bail and led out of the courtroom.
Ellis' lawyer, Daniella Eaddy, had argued her client should be granted bail because he didn't shoot anyone. He pinned the blame on Bostick and their buddy Lee Woods, 29.
"At the time of the shooting, my client was driving the car," she said. "That is a far cry from attempted murder." Police believe Ellis and Bostick did the shooting while Woods drove the car, sources said.

She's kidding right? 3 guns were found and one was being loaded......

The officer, Russel Timoshenko, died at Kings County Hospital Center at 4:14 p.m.
“They did everything humanly possible to save Officer Timoshenko’s life,” Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly said at a news conference outside the hospital yesterday afternoon. “Officer Timoshenko made the ultimate sacrifice with unflinching bravery and dedication to duty. We’ll never forget him, and we’re committed more than ever to see to it that those responsible for this crime are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
Officer Timoshenko died while on life support machines that allowed him to breathe. Each of the two bullets that struck Officer Timoshenko cut across his spinal cord, just beneath his brain, doctors said, which left him unable to breathe on his own or to move his muscles. After tests determined yesterday that he had no brain activity, the doctors pronounced him dead and the respirator was turned off.
“He had no oxygen for 15 or 20 minutes before he got here because of the paralysis,” said Dr. Robert S. Kurtz, director of trauma and critical care at Kings County Hospital Center. “And I think that’s what determines his course. The activity in his brain ceased. And that’s death in New York State.”
As word of the officer’s death spread around the law enforcement community yesterday evening, police officers drove by the Timoshenko family’s modest white brick home in the Bay Terrace neighborhood of Staten Island. And about 150 others, including his partner, Officer Herman Yan, who also had been shot, filed past his bedside after he died. Many of the officers were in tears, Mr. Kelly said.

God Bless this poor family and all members of law enforcement. This story made me sad because my brother is a deputy and we would be so devasted if anything ever happened to him.

The mother of slain officer Russel Timoshenko appeared in a Queens courtroom Tuesday ready to get another look at the man who gunned down her son in cold blood on a Brooklyn street in 2007.

But cop killer Dexter Bostic decided to stay in their prison cells rather than face a courtroom filled with fellow officers huddled around Tatyana Timoshenko.

A convicted cop-killer read a defiant poem before being sentenced to life without parole Wednesday for gunning down a 23-year-old officer after a Brooklyn traffic stop.

Dexter Bostic, one of three men tried in the case, was convicted Dec. 19 of murder and weapons charges in the July 9, 2007 murder of Russel Timoshenko.

The last of three men accused of killing a New York City police officer during a traffic stop in Brooklyn in 2007 was convicted of aggravated murder on Monday. The charge carries a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole.

After two and half days of deliberation, a jury of nine men and three women also found the man, Lee Woods, 31, guilty of attempted aggravated murder and two counts of gun possession in the slaying of the officer, Russel Timoshenko...
