...21-year old Metheny was last seen dropping her kids off at day care Wednesday morning. Charleston police found her 1998 Gold Chevy Venture Van on Wyoming Street about 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies say neighbors first noticed the van about 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, that's six hours after Matheny was last seen...

...Her boyfriend, Jared Davis of Campbells Creek, was the last person to see her...

If you have any information on Metheny's whereabouts call the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department at 304-357-0169. http://www.wvgazette.com/section/News/2006072316

How sad for her to be missing, leaving behind 3 children. The above article mentions that a piece of paper with a handwritten St. Albans phone number and the words “3 bedroom, 2 bath, 15,000.” was in her van, yet it also says that investigators had no reason to think Metheny was looking for a new residence. I wonder why they think that? Maybe she did drive over to look at a place and something happened to her. I hope she's found soon.

I see you done put it up. I saw this in morning paper. Iam bad to skip through the paper but this is the first time i hear she was missing..

I wish something would break in this case...

Anything new on Melanie? Wondering if there was prints in/on the van?
She couldn't have left those 3 kids behind......I hope they are looking 24/7 for her.

What looked like a lead in the search for a missing Belle woman now appears to represent a whole new missing-person case.

Jackson County sheriff’s deputies said a logger found the decomposed body of a nude adult white female in a remote part of the county Friday afternoon. At first, they suspected the body might be that of Melanie Metheny, the 21-year-old mother of three who has been missing since July 19.

But in a media conference held Saturday, Sheriff Michael Bright announced that his investigators were almost certain the body was not Metheny’s

RIPLEY — A woman found dead in rural Jackson County Friday is a Cross Lanes mother who left her Kanawha County home more than a week ago.

Kathleen Jewell Adkins, 43, was found by a logger who spotted her body near the Roane-Jackson County line. She was identified Monday after Jackson County sheriff’s officials found her car in the area where her body was found, according to a news release issued by the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department.

Jackson County Sheriff Michael Bright said Sunday that the person found Friday, now known to be Adkins, was killed then placed at the site several days before the discovery. He would not say how she was killed, but the death is considered homicide.

Metheny's father, James, told reporters Thursday that Melanie's boyfriend, Jared Davis, was the last person to see her on Wednesday.

James Metheny said his daughter stays with Davis part-time in Campbells Creek, but lives on Midland Avenue in Belle. Stover said there are no suspects in Metheny's disappearance at this time.

I hope that they are checking out the boyfriend.

I would think that her daycare provider would have been the last person to have seen Melanie. I wonder where she was headed....college? It sounds like she was really working hard on getting a GED or something as she wanted to go to college. Can't see any reason why she would take off and leave her kids
and throw away all of the hard work on her education that she had done.

She must have been driving a vehicle if she took her kids to daycare. Has it been found? I wonder about the history between Melanie and her boyfriend. What kind of a person is he? I would imagine that LE has taken a good long look at him. Another young person disappearing without a trace. I hope that she is found soon. Her poor little kids probably don't understand any of this...how could they. Prayers for Melanie, her kids and her family.

Her vehicle was found just a few days after she was reported missing.

Thirty-eight-year-old O'Neil is charged with the murder of 43-year-old Kathleen Atkins.

Police say O'Neil has a history as a violent sexual offender.

Atkins' family says O'Neil never should have been released from jail.

Joyce Osborne, victim's mother: "She didn't know him. He didn't know her. For him to take her and do what he did to her! They shouldn't do that to anybody. You don't do that to a dog--what he did to my daughter."

A shocked family is preparing to bury Kathleen Atkins.

The Cross Lanes woman was beaten to death and her nude body dumped in Jackson County. Atkins was the mother of three boys.

The family is angry because O'Neil was released from jail after a technical flaw in his indictment to failure to register as a sex offender caused the charge to be dismissed last week. O'Neil spend 18 years in prison for raping and kidnapping a Dunbar teen in 1987.

Virginia Johnston, victim's sister: "To mutilate her like that, he shouldn't have been on the streets.

Bump...

New efforts are underway in the search for a mother who was last seen after she dropped her kids off at a daycare in Kanawha County.

Melanie Metheny has been missing since July 19th.

Her father says a Web site has been setup with more information on his daughter. The family is also handing out a new flyer with her picture. Metheny dropped off her three children at the Country Kids Daycare in Belle at 7 a.m. on the 19th.

He says the site contains more information that will hopefully help lead police to her.

I wonder if the boyfriend or someone had followed her to day care? Kind of strange that her van was found just hours after she disappeared. Seem like one article said hours and another said 4 days. I wonder which is right? If it was found hours then it looks like someone might have been following her.

I hope that they checked the boyfriend out really good....along with his vehicle. Also wonder about an ex beings she had little kids. I hope that she is found alive and safe.

is Melanie still missing?
I'm in Summersville, WV, but don't get a daily paper. My parents usually keep me updated. My dad said a hunter found a body near Charleston (back in October and different than the one found in Ripley earlier) but he seemed to remember that it was not Melanie.

I'll see if I can find anything else about her....
