NEWARK, N.J. — Four young people were shot in the head at close range in a school parking lot, killing all but one, authorities said Sunday.
The victims were shot overnight after they were lined up against a back wall near a set of bleachers at the K-8 Mount Vernon School, prosecutor's office spokesman Paul Loriquet said...

I just happened on this article by accident.

What a terrible crime. The article says the victims were all good kids and some things were stolen.

This is scary. Think of all the good kids who are just that--GOOD, but some how get mixed up with the wrong crowd or simply get mixed up with 1 bad apple. Shot in the head no less. What a terrible crime. :(

Oops, I just posted a thread about this. I'll see if I can delete it or bring some links here... Sorry!

NEWARK, Aug. 5 — The authorities were struggling to explain one of Newark’s most chilling slaughters in recent memory after three young friends were lined up against a schoolyard wall and shot dead late Saturday. A fourth person survived a gunshot.

“This appears to have been an execution-style type of murder,” Paul M. Loriquet, a spokesman for the Essex County prosecutor, Paula T. Dow, said on Sunday.
Investigators had no suspects and seemed to have few clues about what unfolded at the schoolyard, which is near the tip of Ivy Hill Park in a neighborhood of tree-hemmed streets speckled with modest homes and brick high-rises.

That is awful. I wonder what the motivation for this was? It seems like killing/attempting to kill four people is a bit extreme if the shooter just wanted to steal a few things.

NEWARK, N.J. - Three friends were forced to kneel against a wall behind an elementary school and were shot to death at close range, and a fourth was found about 30 feet away with gunshot and knife wounds to her head, police said.
All were from Newark and planned to attend Delaware State University this fall.
Essex County Prosecutor Paula Dow said authorities didn't have any suspects ................................

I just read this happened Sat night.

Local word is it was a gang initiation--"Spanish" gang--although I don't know about that.

The heat is really on Newark Mayor Cory Booker these days as the murder rate continues to increases, which I think is pretty unfair. Newark was ruled by corruption for so long that I think it is going to take him a while to get a handle on the corruption and violence.

What a horrible tragedy.

Blah, that sucks. There was no need to kill these kids.

We need to get the National Guard back home and do whatever else we can do to concentrate on the violence that is going on right here in our cities, in our country.

We could clean this up if those in office cared about the people who have to live in these war-zone cities.

It's going to take an all out concentrated effort and it should be done NOW. It's been ignored too long because quite frankly not many care about the people who this is directly affecting.

These three young lives matter as much as anyone else's does.

Oh man, this exectution murder of three shining younglives just hits me in the gut. I can not even read the article.

It is just so so sad.

Teen arrested in N.J. schoolyard deaths

NEWARK, N.J. - Police arrested a 15-year-old boy in the killings of three college students in a schoolyard, shootings considered jarring even in a city used to violence, a law enforcement official said Thursday. The teen was arrested Wednesday night, said Paul Loriquet, a spokesman for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

Four friends, ages 18 to 20, were shot while hanging out in a school yard Saturday night. Authorities have said robbery appeared to be the motive. Three of the victims — Terrance Aeriel, 18, Dashon Harvey, 20; and Iofemi Hightower, 20 — were forced to kneel against a wall and were shot at close range. The fourth, 19-year-old Natasha Aeriel, Terrance Aeriel's sister, survived a wound to her head and is hospitalized.

Despite being under sedation for periods, Natasha Aeriel has been providing authorities with information about the shootings, Mayor Cory A. Booker said.

The killings brought unwanted publicity to the city, which has struggled for years with violent crime. Residents and law enforcement organizations have donated $150,000 to aid the victims' families and to a reward fund. "This is a defining moment for our city. The crime is not going to define Newark but our response to it," Booker said Thursday on ABC's "Good Morning America." All four victims were planning to attend Delaware State University this fall. Instead, three were to be buried Saturday in separate services.
