GUILTY LA - Jasmine Stanley for child abuse, Lake Charles, 2007 & 2009

:furious: This woman needs to be put in prison for attempted murder. this poor little thing is only 2 months old and had numerous fractures.I minded my new granddaughter yesterday and couldnt imagine her being hurt like this poor little thing.

 There is nothing that could justify anybody striking a child. Not to mention the baby is only 2 months old, what could possibly have prompted ehr to do this? Ia gree she needs to be prosecuted for attempted murder:bang:

September 2007:

Jasmine E. Stanley, 21, 712 17th St., Lake Charles, stated she had taken her daughter to the hospital because she was unresponsive...

On August 23rd, after a thorough examination of the baby, the hospital in New Orleans determined in addition to the head injury, the baby had sustained multiple rib fractures, a broken right arm, and a broken left big toe.

After a bone scan was conducted on her siblings, it was revealed her twin brother also sustained fractures to his ribs.

[Jasmine Stanley] was then charged with 5 counts of 2nd degree cruelty to a juvenile. All of Stanley’s children, except the one born since her arrest in September 2007, were placed into state custody at the time of her arrest. The twins were placed back into Stanley’s custody in December 2008 and the oldest child was placed back in her custody in January 2009.

February 2009:

On February 5, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office was called out to a local hospital in regard to an 18-month-old baby who was unconscious with massive head trauma. The investigation revealed the baby, who had to be airlifted to a hospital in New Orleans, suffered a fractured skull with numerous hematomas, bruising, and scratches to her throat.

After further investigation, her mother, Jasmine E. Stanley, 22, of 712 17th Street, Lake Charles, was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with 2nd degree cruelty to a juvenile...

Stanley was also arrested in August and September 2007 because this same daughter, who was two months old at the time, was brought to the hospital with a fracture to the right side of her head. It was also determined she had sustained multiple rib fractures, a broken right arm and a broken left big toe.

February 2009:

A Lake Charles mom behind bars for allegedly beating her 18 month old little girl for the second time is now charged with 7 counts of 2nd degree cruelty to a juvenille after the investigation suggests she's also abused the little girl's twin brother and now her 8 month old son...

a long bone scan performed on all of Stanley's 4 children on February 26th revealed her 8 month old son had a fracture to his forearm which was already in the healing process...

The 8 month old baby has been in Stanley's care since birth which was after the Office of Community Services removed the three older siblings from her home...

Stanley has previously been arrested in August 2007 when she says she was carrying the then just months old baby girl and tripped over the little girl's twin brother.

She was arrested in September 2007 after further investigation from that incident proved the little girl's twin had also been abused.
And the last arrest was February 5th of this year when she says the little girl fell from the play ground equipment.

She was previously charged with 2nd degree cruelty to a juvenile for abuse to her 18 month old twin boy and girl.
With this new charge involving the infant, she now has been charged with 7 counts of 2nd degree cruelty to a juvenile.
The 18 month old twin girl remains in a New Orleans hospital...

Feb 2009:

Calcasieu Parish District Attorney John DeRosier says his office tried to slow down a state office's efforts to return two children to a mother facing cruelty charges...

Stanley's twins, a daughter and son, were in state custody from 2007 until the state Office of Community Services in Lake Charles recommended that they be returned to her in December.

At that time, Stanley faced five counts of cruelty to a juvenile related to injuries to the children in 2007. Those counts are still pending.

"My ADA (assistant district attorney) who was handling this particular case tried to slow down the process when in December she got her twins back. The ADA told them, 'Look, we have a problem here.' They were still bound and determined to reunite momma with these children. It was their strong recommendation. Look at what happened, and this is not the first time," DeRosier said.

May 2012:

Jasmine Stanley says she's innocent and wants a trial.

Back in 2009 she pleaded no contest in connection with injuries to her infant daughter and has been serving a 30 year sentence. She was expected to have to serve at least twelve years before any possibility of release.

Then, prosecutors called her a horrible monster, though Stanley insisted she never intentionally hurt her child or did anything wrong.

Attorneys for Stanley ask that she be allowed to take back her no contest plea that she get a trial.

August 2012:

A state district judge has vacated the four-year prison sentence for a woman accused of cruelty to her children and ordered a new trial.

KPLC-TV reports Judge David Ritchie on Tuesday said Jasmine Stanley’s case should be retried, in part, because of ineffective assistance of counsel...

Defense attorneys later hired by Stanley say they have evidence they believe proves she is innocent.

June 2015:

A pre-trial hearing resumed in 14th Judicial District Court on Wednesday in the case of a Lake Charles mother accused of child cruelty.

Jasmine Stanley's words can be used against her: Judge David Ritchie has denied a motion to suppress the statement she made back in 2007 after her baby daughter suffered a skull fracture...

Back in 2007, Stanley allegedly suggested that the baby's head injury happened a couple of weeks earlier when she accidentally dropped the baby and her head hit the coffee table.
However, investigators said that an ER doctor indicated that the baby's head hitting a coffee table wouldn't have caused such a serious injury.

She has also said that the injury was caused by her hitting the baby because she wouldn't stop crying....

The baby with the skull fracture is now 7-8 years old. Stanley has lost custody of her children.

June 2015:

Detective Kathy Leblanc said Stanley first said that she dropped the child on the coffee table, then said that she had hit the child in the head with her hand out of frustration because of the child’s medical condition.
Defense attorney Adam Johnson argued that because Stanley was in a Sheriff’s Office holding cell for three hours, it was akin to an arrest.
Prosecutor Cynthia Killingsworth said there was no violation of Stanley’s constitutional rights.
Leblanc testified that Stanley was not under arrest at the time and “absolutely” could have left the Sheriff’s Office had she so chosen. Leblanc said she never told Stanley that she couldn’t leave, nor did she handcuff her.

December 2015:

But now, the case is resolved. Stanley pleaded guilty to second-degree cruelty to a juvenile in what's called an "Alford Plea." That's when a defendant maintains their innocence but pleads guilty to avoid a possibly more severe outcome, if found guilty in a trial. Stanley was sentenced to time served — she has already spent three years and six months in jail...

Calcasieu First Assistant District Attorney Cynthia Killingsworth said the state had the evidence to prove her guilt.

"She admitted she had a problem handling these twins. They were twins, a little boy and a little girl, both 2 months old. She had another child; I think he was 2 at the time, so that was three babies at home. It's hard. I know it's hard. But that doesn't mean you knock them in the head and give them a skull fracture,"said Killingsworth.

December 2015:

Stanley's attorney, Adam Johnson wouldn't discuss the facts of the case but he said Stanley wanted to put it behind her.

"If she went to trial...on three counts, she was facing 40 years on each count, up to 120 years worst case scenario. But she was facing a lot of time. That's why she decided this was in her best interest," he said.

Johnson said he's always believed Stanley was innocent...
