Gerry McCann is set to return to full-time work next week for the first time since the disappearance of his daughter.

Mr McCann, a consultant cardiologist, went back to work part-time at Glenfield Hospital in November.

He began by analysing MRI scans as well as research for a programme funded by the British Heart Foundation.

From next week, he will have greater contact with patients and will hold clinics.

Mr and Mrs McCann, and two-year-old twins Sean and Amelie, saw in the New Year in Scotland with Mr McCann's parents John and Eileen.

According to the Daily Record the family had a quiet evening.

The family also stayed away from their home in Rothley at Christmas, spending it instead in Yorkshire with relatives.

The McCanns official spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said the couple have planned a series of further meetings with advisers in the coming weeks to review the search for Madeleine, who disappeared from their holiday apartment in the Algarve on May 3.

The Spanish private detective firm Metodo 3, which was hired by the McCanns to follow leads in the search for their daughter, is reportedly re-focusing its investigation on Morocco.

The north African country was targeted before Christmas in a fresh publicity drive with thousands of posters of the missing four-year-old being put up.

It has been claimed the agency will send investigators back to Morocco after receiving fresh evidence following the new appeal.

The evidence is apparently connected to a sighting by Dr Naoual Malhi, 24, who said she saw a woman bundling a child that looked like Madeleine into a taxi in the northern Morrocan town of Fnideq.
