Miss Michigan crowned Miss America

And Miss Indiana was the runner up! :woohoo: Congrats to our neighbors in Michigan!

I picked Michigan from the beginning of the program! :woohoo: Thought Indiana had a good chance to win, too, but her answer to her question wasn't that great, imo.

Was this somehow related to the reality show about Miss America? Was the show more up-to-date? Who was the host? (Please don't tell me Regis Philbin!) :D

So nobody fell, or flubbed their answer to those stupid questions?

How many questions can I fit in one comment box?!

TM, it was just weird.

They had two platforms on the stage, one was for the girls that didn't make it. They just sat and watched after they weren't chosen.

They had a DJ and served chocolate, doughnuts and other desserts.

They brought the parents up on the stage onto the other platform.

The background music was musak and it played really loud sometimes...it sounded like whoever chose the music was stoned lol

When they did their swimsuit part they got to be as free as they wanted. Some looked like they would have been at home on a pole iffen ya know what I mean.

During the talent portion they dwindled the numbers, even before some of them got to do their talent!

The host flubbed a few times and the girls themselves, in one portion, didn't even know which direction to go! There were at least three that started going off one way and it looked like someone was telling them they were doing it wrong so they switched direction.

All in all, I hated it. It was poorly done, none of the class, none of the traditions. It felt like a reality show :-(

Oh and my least favorite part...the girls did commercials for the casino they were at. Cheap advertising I guess.

I saw about 5 minutes of the show while scanning and I believe it was Mark Steines from ET. Everytime I see him I think of the Anna Nicole/Howard/Larry fiasco as Mark was right in the thick of things with all of them.

...and I'm really happy for Kirstin....she's really a great gal.

As for her talent song --well, TLC CLAIMED that they wanted "new" but in the last month before the pageant over 20 contestants had to change their talent song to a new arrangement or another song entirely!! (Basically at the last minute --Kirsten had to change the arrangment of her song). TLC didn't want to pay the royalties and they wanted to be able to re-show the pageant as often as they wanted. So, don't blame the contestants for not being "contemporary."

The reality show scoring was seperate (Although they gave away $30K in scholarships at the end of that too). Actually, Miss America is a week long event. They do interviews on Monday and Tuesday and compete in preliminaries on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. They have Friday "off" and then the "big show" is Saturday.

I didn't like the format or the host. I HATED the eliminations and no "warm up" for talent (What? Did they want to injure one of these dancers?). But Miss America is doing what it can to stay televised and up to date in a world where Britney is "relevent."

And, yeah, I'm a Miss America geek.

I think it's pretty cool Miss Michigan's grandmother was Miss Michigan in 1944, and that grandma was there.
