A $5,000 reward has been offered for any information leading to the safe return of a 58-year-old California man.

Larry Powers was a frequent visitor to Arizona. He and his mining partner owned a number of mining claims in Bagdad and spent time in the areas of Wickenburg, Congress and Stanton. They were in Arizona last winter prospecting for gold.

Powers was in this area as late as April 2007, and his family and friends have not heard from him since.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) and Detective Gordon Diffendaffer are investigating the case and have asked the public for help in solving this mystery.

Remains found in Yavapai County may be man missing since 2007

Anthony Richards, who was 44 when Powers disappeared, was arrested last year in Terrebonne, Ore., in connection with the theft of a credit card belonging to Powers and on several counts of identity theft, the Sheriff's Office said. Richards was transported on May 5, 2016, to the Camp Verde Detention Center, where he remains in custody with a $100,000 bond.

Powers and Richards were partners in the Big Nugget mining claim near Bagdad in Yavapai County and had been seen the day before Powers' disappearance in Stanton, the Sheriff's Office said.
Officials said detectives believed Powers' body was near the mining claim.

In the follow-up investigation, detectives flew a drone over the mining claim and saw a depressed section in the soil, the Sheriff's Office said. Crews found camping supplies in the initial excavation and later found human remains.
